The Violet Femme

Let’s forget safe nudes for a while and bring back color in different hues of violet. The thing about purple shades is that it’s easy to layer with different variations available to us now. Start with a darker violet shade near the lash line then diffuse it upwards to your brow bone using a brush. Work a the darker shade into the fold then blend again as you higher into the lid.

Pare the look down with super luminescent skin and barely there lipstick. Skip the mascara, too, as this look is already a standout on its own. Pair it with a merlot lip to transition from a day to night FOTD.

Splurge: Clinique All About Shadow in Royal Couple (P1,250), Smashbox Double Exposure Palette (~P2,500)

Save: In2It Eye Colour Palette in Royale Regatta (P380), BYS Eyeshadow Palette in Guilty Pleasures (P499)

The Velvet Matte

Gone are the days of stark, dry, matte lips. Now there’s a different kind of matte that’s making the waves for lips - velvet, that is! There are so many creamy matte and liquid matte formulas out in the market now, so the matte lip trend doesn’t have that cakey and dry look as the matte lips of before.

If you don’t have creamy matte lipsticks on hand, you can transform any matte lipstick you currently have. Firstly, prep your lips to exfoliate dry skin with a lip scrub, or make one using raw sugar and honey to buff off any flakes. Then, sweep the color straight from the tube unto your lips for best results. To “mattify” your lips, dust on a layer of translucent powder then follow up with another layer of lipstick. For the velvet finish, swipe on liquid lipstick of the same color. If you still don't have that technique down pat, check out our tips on how to apply matte liquid lipstick like an adult.

Splurge: Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick (P890), MAC Lipstick (P1,000)

Save: Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor (P575), Pink Sugar Creamy Matte Lipstick (P349), Maybelline Velvet Mattes (P299), NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (P290)

The ASG

If you’ve seen the Star Cinema movie Always Be My Maybe, you’ll know what the ASG is. But for the modest, it’s the post-workout, post-yoga, post-cycling glow that you get after engaging in a physical activity.

A healthy-looking glow from within starts with good exfoliation to get rid dead skin and reveal a fresh layer of healthier skin. Next, since it’s the height of summer these days and SPF must not be skipped, how about using your sunscreen as a highlighter? The higher the SPF, the more light-reflecting your sunscreen will be. You can also mix a bit of your SPF with your fave moisturizer to for an instant illuminating moisturizer.

Next, use a cushion foundation or a BB cream to get that coveted Korean glow. Define the brows with brow powder or just leave it as it is. Lastly, pair your glowing skin with a subtle eye-lip combination. We recommend a cat eye and lip stain or gloss.

Splurge: Cure Natural Aqua Gel (P1,500), Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion (P1,950 with refill)Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation (P1,750)VMV Hypoallergenics Armada Lip Balm SPF60+ (P770)

Save: White Result Exfoliating Gel (P300 ish), Etude House Magic Any Cushion (P998), Bioré Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50 PA++++ (P420)Nivea Fruity Shine Lip Balm (P80)

Which of these summer looks have caught your eye? Will you be trying any of them soon?
