Mascara Week: My top 5 favorite mascaras this 2013

I suppose I should feel wasteful that I opened about seven brand new tubes of mascara in service of Mascara Week, but that's just part of the job! I hope you had fun reading through the reviews and discovering just what makes an amazing mascara. It's different for everyone but for me, I like lots of length, volume, and ease of removal. I prefer clean lashes with no clumps or flaking, and a brush that can reach even the most awkward corners of my eyes.

With that in my wishlist, here are my top five favorite mascaras this year. These are what I love picking up! I rotate them depending on my requirements for the day (the look, activity, estimated wear time). Check them out. ;)

If you've read my Holy Grail products post then you know that this is my favorite mascara. The Fairydrops Platinum Mascara meets all my requirements and a little bit more. It gives me just the right volume and length without toe-ing the "are you wearing falsies" line. I do love big lashes but I prefer something less obvious for everyday wear!

It stays on all day with minimal to zero smudging, and it comes off with just warm or soapy water. I still use a makeup remove though. It's just simpler.

New vs old packaging - which one do you like better?

Fairydrops Platinum has new packaging, which is the gold and black tube. It's supposed to nourish your lashes and curl them better but there is no visible difference from the old formula.

My next favorite mascara is the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Dramatic Volume Mascara. This is so affordable, looks fabulous in two coats, and is so easy to wash off! It doesn't smudge or smear even if it's not waterproof. I love how this particular mascara makes my lashes look - fringry and thick at the base, longer at the tips.

Max Factor makes some of the best mascaras in my experience. I have another favorite from the brand, something I saw on Lisa Eldridge's channel. Will talk about that in a bit.

My next favorite is the Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Edge Meister. The Lash Expander is probably the one I have loved longest in this list. I "discovered" it about two years ago, even before Majolica Majorca came to the Philippines. (Makeup hipster? Lol.) It's the best mascara for lengthening lashes but the new formula also offers a bit more volume. Speaking of volume, Majolica Majorca Lash King should also get a nod here - that's a crazy pumping mascara! It has an unpleasant chemical smell though. I much prefer Lash Expander because of that con.

Now I have breaking news: THE LASH EXPANDER NOW COMES IN A WASHABLE FORMULA. Let that sink in for a minute. Washable. Oh my glob. I've been wishing for that for years! The new Majo autumn collection has the new formula. It's just out this week I think! I swatched it on my lashes earlier and noticed that there are less fiber thingies in it - we'll see in the future how that affects length.

The Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara is a favorite because it makes me look like I got eyelash extensions - not falsies or cleverly layered mascara, but lash extensions. A couple of layers give a natural lengthened effect, quite unlike other mascaras I've tried before!

I have the waterproof version which is a pain in the buns to remove, but I think there is a non-waterproof one. That's what I'll get next time!

Aaaand this is my latest fave mascara - theBalm What's Your Type? The Body Builder Mascara. I got this a couple of weeks ago and already it's part of my regular rotation. Love how wide-awake my eyes look when I have it on.

So there you go, 600+ words on mascara. :P Sometimes I feel ridiculous that I can be such a dweeb when it comes to makeup, but it's fun. I hope you found a new mascara to love at least! ^_^ Share also your favorite mascara/s!
