Love: Fairydrops Platinum Mascara

Have you guys heard of Fairydrops? It's a fairly popular brand from Japan, known for their mascara's patented "3 teardrop" wand. The brand is so popular, in fact, that it's also distributed at Sephora in the US. Google it and you'll find a lot of rave reviews. ;)

And so, I'm happy to announce that Fairydrops is finally here in the Philippines! They set up shop last week at Beauty Bar branches in Manila. Aside from their best-selling mascaras, there's also a BB cream, loose powder, and a glossy balm in the selection. I swatched the BB cream and it looks super promising!

What I will be reviewing today is one of my current fave mascaras: the Fairydrops Platinum Mascara (P1,195). It's a super black, clean finish mascara that washes off with only water. I've been using it for three weeks now and I love it! Did I say it washes off with just water? Yet it's smudge and smear-proof, and fairly water resistant as long as you don't rub it.

Here's a more detailed take!

What I love about the product

  • It's an office and school-safe mascara since it has a clean, enhancing finish. It's not in-your-face. It volumizes and lengthens just enough to make your lashes stand out, but not so much that it looks TOO much!
  • Curls lashes and holds them all day. It's best used with an eyelash curler, but the wand does wonders by itself.
  • Ahhh, the wand. It's awesome! It's a curved wand with three teardrop-shaped balls stuck together. To curl the lashes and make the base look blacker, I use the outer, raised curve of the wand. To volumize, I roll down to the inner curve which houses more mascara.

  • Doesn't smudge or smear. It's also water-resistant (meaning against sweat, tears, and random splashes of water if you're into that) as long as you don't rub it.
  • It's super easy to take off. Just soak your mascara-laden lashes with some tap water, close your eye, then rub the mascara gently downwards with a cotton pad or sponge. Film-type mascaras like this can easily be rolled out of the lashes into clumps. No smearing (i.e. the inky black stuff that gets all over your eye area once you try to dissolve the mascara), which means you truly DON'T need a makeup remover to clean this out completely!
  • Super cute packaging. I like the silver tube with the peach-pink design floating all over it. It's definitely easy to look for in a sea of black mascaras!

Worn. You'll see the length and volume, but it's not the crazy kind.

What I don't like about the product

  • I wish it could be cheaper. It's quite expensive at P1,195 for a tube.

Recommendations

If you're an office or college gal looking for an understated yet enhancing mascara to wear everyday, I highly recommend the Fairydrops Platinum Mascara. It stays put with zero smudging, don't need an eyelash curler to look good, and is easy to remove with just water.

However, if you're looking for a mascara that can get you big n' bold lashes, this is not for you. I do believe Fairydrops has other variants for that! I have another one called Volume Burst which has fibers if I'm not mistaken. I'll review that next time.

Verdict

Love it! It's quite expensive but I haven't tried a mascara like exactly like this in the more affordable brands. The closest would have to be the Avon SuperMagnify Mascara, I think. Anyway I like using Platinum for everyday looks, especially the kind where I'm out for a long day and I just know that I don't want to spend a lot of time removing my makeup at the end of it.

Soooo, what do you think? Does this look like something you'd go for?

Follow Fairydrops Philippines on Facebook and find them in Beauty Bar branches located in Trinoma, Eastwood, Shangri-la, Rockwell, Greenbelt, Mall of Asia, Bonifacio High Street, Cebu and in soon-to-open branches in Robinson's Magnolia. Mascara products only at Podium, Gateway, Galleria, ATC, Lucky and Midtown.

It looks amazing. I'm sure it'll make my sparse lashes look like I actually have lashes. I like the design of the tube as well.

The price is too steep though, I'd be willing to go as high as maybe 500-600 for mascara.

Hi Ms. Liz, I have a problem wearing mascara since it always smudges on me. maybe it's because my under-eye skin always moist. What can I do about that?

packaging looks so girly. i've been using avon magnify since it came out and i love it for an everyday mascara. i would love to try this one if not for the price.

I dont usually wear mascaras but this could probably change my daily make up routine. It looks lite. U dont wear mascara cz i hare that it gets clumpy and does look "natural". I should try Avon instead. Fairydrops is just too darn expensive!;)

It doesn't come cheap. If I have extra money, I might splurge on this but there are other alternatives out there, much cheaper too and will give us the lash definition we need :)

Wow, now I know why it's called "Fairydrops". It's a treasure (and worth like one too!)

Gosh I wish I have enough money to spend on one. It definitely made your lashes look so gorgeous, yet so natural. And easy to remove too! That's what's bugging me about mascaras, which is why I don't use mine so often. The smudge that I always earn somehow always gives me the "just-punched" look. I need a mascara like this, but... the price. It breaks my heart. :(

Oh well, I don't usually use mascaras anyway, but it would be really grand to have one like this. I'm also eyeing on Fairydrop's lip gloss that goes on a stick like Lip balm. It's really intriguing me! :D I might purchase one when I drop by at Beauty Bar, if they have it. :)

Thank you for the review Ms. Liz! I'd say it's worth the steep price if the one purchasing it is the faithful-to-one-mascara type of girl. Hihi :)

Heard a lot of raves about this one. Glad that Beauty Bar is currently selling it now. Why are these Japanese (right?) products too darn cute, efficient and expensive?

October 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterManilaJen

I have their mascara treatment cream and it goes well with the mascara I'm currently using now, I'm hoping to try the actual mascara like platinum if I'm already done with mine. Hehe

i've been using this mascara this week and it's amazing. i have short and straight lashes which even the shu uemura curler can't cure. however, this product not only volumized my lashes but curled it as well.

Aaah, Fairydrops! I first saw their mascara in Jen from Frmheadtotoe's video tutorials. The wand always intrigued me, and I never forgot about the brand. I didn't know about their other products, though. I only knew about their mascaras. I need to visit Beauty Bar na talaga :)

Whoa, I think I just fell in love. It looks like you're wearing falsies! Will definitely ask my bf to get me this mascara since he is in Japan right now! Waaaaahhh~~~~~ So excited!

October 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterIca

For a non-volumizing mascara, it certainly makes your lashes look thicker! That wand really is something. And yes, yikes quite expensive.

PS Love the purple eyes you're wearing.

I've heard of Fairydrops before, from top fashion/photography blogger Tricia Gosingtian. While I thought that she must be knowledgeable in this stuff since she looooves japanese stuff, I thought that I needed someone who really knows about make-up in general before I decide to buy this product. And when it comes to make-up, the first thing I think of is you, Ms. Liz. You blogging about their mascara really seals the deal. It's very expensive for a mascara, but my birthday is coming up and I might buy it from my birthday money. I love how it looks so natural, in comparison to the popular Majolica Majorca, whose mascaras are really for night outs and events. Definitely perfect for a first mascara.

Ms. Liz, have I mentioned before that my love of reading blogs started from you? My mom was going to buy me an avon lipstick and I was clueless since there were no testers, only catalogues. I looked avon lipsticks up online and your blog was shown. If I remember correctly, you were #1 on top blogs. I was so enticed by all the glamour and glitz of your make-up life. Hehe. Since then, I have been checking out your blog regularly and since it became popular, I am now checking out three fashion blogs (Tricia G, Laureen Uy, Kryz Uy) regularly. However, you will always be my only make-up blog love <3

With hopes of glamour and glitz and Benefit products in my life too,
Gia <3

PS, it's my 18th birthday today, so forgive my cheesiness

Looks promising but its sooo mahal, its almost equivalent to two mascaras from Majo.

October 18, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJaja

hmmm, I haven't heard of them. But I'm just a college student, so I really can't afford expensive mascaras. Though mascara, for me, is for finishing touches. Like the cherry on top of a yummy cake. It's not really the main and most important thing on my make-up kit, but it does make a sweet difference. I'm also wearing glasses, so even if I use super magnifying and elongating mascaras, people don't really notice.

Ms. Liz, can you do a make-up tutorial for people with eyeglasses? Thanks! Have a nice day. :)

I've read about it before and I'm super happy that the brand is finally here! And as everybody said, the price is a bit steep, but I wasn't really surprised. It's a good product (as I have read) and definitely worth a try when given a chance. :D

October 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterYca

I didn't know that this was a Japanese brand. I would love to try this mascara cause I want one that is easy to remove. Plus, cute packaging. Expensive though. Majo Majo is a Japanese brand but less expensive.

October 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNikka

very interesting, it did volumize and lengthen your lashes. It's the first time I've heard of this brand. I just find it too pricey though.

October 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHollie

Can't wait for your Volume Burst review! I really need/want mascara that can make me look like I'm wearing falsies. :)) Partly because I can't wear falsies if it would save my life. :(

October 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNicole

Even if this is water-resistant, does it survive hot and humid days when we sweat a lot? Do you really experience NO smudging in the undereye area with this (vs. the Waterproof version)? Because if so, then this would be my next purchase!
