Reader Question: Bleached or made up brows?

Good day Miss Liz! I have been contemplating for a few months now on whether to have my brows bleached or not since I found out about a brow salon that caters to such services. What's your take regarding this?

Would you recommend a made up or bleached brows? Thank you so much. :) - KD

Hi KD! Bleached eyebrows are only flattering on two occasions: if your hair is naturally/ dyed very light or if you have thick, black, and masculine eyebrows. Bleaching brows is a great way to soften them without any extra product, but believe me - a lot of girls don't actually need to do it!

If you have thin to normal brows then it's best to just have them groomed regularly at a brow salon. Some salons, like Browhaus, even offer temporary dyeing. It's a service called Browgraphy. After sculpting the brows, the aesthetician would shade them with a dark dye that's matched to your hair. The color will stay on for a week! It's an expensive service but if you're going on a holiday and you don't want to bother with makeup, then this is nice to try.

For everyday brow shaping though, there's a slew of excellent products out there. They can go as light or as dark as you wish - without the commitment. :) Here are some recommendations!

You don't need to suffer through bleached brows when there are products like the MAC Brow Set in Girl Boy. This instantly lightens brows due to its golden blonde shade. It's fairly water-resistant too! A cheaper alternative is the Majolica Majorca Brow and Lash Colorist in BR555. There's also the Jazzy brow mascara (I don't know the name exactly) which has a dupe of Girl Boy for only P300. It's available in Watsons.

If you want to get defined brows without having them look too dark, then you'll love the Shu Uemura Hard Formula brow pencil in 09 Walnut Brown. This delivers the perfect amount of pigment after a few quick layers.

There's also the K-Palette Lasting 2-Way Eyebrow if you want to go a little darker. The Chocolate shade is my favorite, but Blonde is a nice option for those looking for slightly lighter brows.

Currently, the perfect brow combo for me would be the MAC Fluidline Brow Gelcreme in Dirty Blonde set with the Girl Boy. I really love how manicured my brows look, without going into the I-was-too-product-happy territory. I just recently dyed my hair a slightly reddish hue, so the combination is more flattering now. :)

So there you go. :) Hope this helps! Share your input too! How do you like your brows - lighter or darker? Why?

I like my brows dark. They're already too light without makeup, as it is. You're right in saying most girls (at least here in the Philippines) don't need to have their brows bleached--most of us have dark hair, and I rarely see girls with too-dark natural brows.

i've always wanted to try and go to a brow salon but i'm afraid that they would thin my brows too much and give it too much arch. do you think brow salons would offer korean style eyebrows (straight and somewhat thick)? i tried doing it on my own but it ended up looking uneven >_<

I think it'll be more tipid to use brow products to lighten brows than to have them bleached at a salon because they fade fast. I think its because the dye they use is very mild. It needs to be gentle enough to be used for the face. These are excellent products. From cheap to splurge.

Is it true that left and right eyebrows shouldn't look EXACTLY alike, not like identical twins but more like sisters? I've heard/seen it somewhere in youtube but i'm not sure what i feel about it. hmmm..

It depends on how my outfit is, sometimes I go dark sometimes I go light. :)

I have such "kalbo" brows and I seriously hate how patchy Girl Boy is on me. Otherwise, it'd really pop!

I was dying to get a new look so I got an undercut and decided to do something to my brows. I tried to go around MOA and find the Jazzy eyebrow gel but only the dark one was in stock :( So I got the one from Majolica Majorca! :) I'm so happy with it.

Sorry to double post, but I'd like to invite you to do Lipstick Week! It's partly inspired by your Bobbi Brown week. I just did mine and tagged you as one of the seven people whose lipstick collection I really wanna see. I know you have an obsession and you get a lot of lipstick questions so I hope you can indulge :) I really wanna know your faves!

Brow color yahhh! I used to bleach my brows using un mga diy kits and the result would always be uneven tone. Masagwa siya lalo na pag tumutubo or nagwawash off n un color. It was during my foray into the diff blogs that i got introduced to brow wax and powder. Mas user friendly siya for me kesa don s mga color tubes like etude house. Mas controllable pa ang effect.

Im currently loving elf eyebrow wax and powder since black ang hair ko. Pag nagpa lighten ako ng hair ill see kung bagay pa din ba siya.

ANg alam ko lang na girls should note is kung light ang hair mo dapat medyo dark ang brows. Kung super dark naman ang hair light n dapat ang kilay.

I used to ignore my eyebrows lang. Kaya lang don s mga blogs ni thebeautyjunkee at iambrigitte iba yalaga ang dating ng maayos at full na kilay. So thanks mis liz for bringing the brows s spotlight

I want to go lighter now because I just dyed my hair lighter. Ive backread your entries here and came up with MAC. Im not sure If I am willing to spend that much on a brow gel, so Im now eyeing for the Jazzy one which I heard is good dupe for MAC. Have you tried the Etude House one Ms. Liz? Is it good?

Btw, I love this week's theme! Very student friendly! Excited ako sa future posts. :)

I prefer lighter brows. My hair is dark brown but I use a lighter brown for my brows. Dark makes me look like a villain. :) I think the light shade suits you too. Try Bloom brown eye shadow (but I use it for my brows instead) from Beauty Bar.

Im using etude auto eyebrow liner that is shaped like the shu uemura one. I'm very comfortable sa mga ganitong klase ng pang-eyebrow but thanks for sharing other options. I haven't tried those with spoolie, looks fun and easy to use.

made up brows that is! I think I was in college when I noticed the perfectly shaped/groomed brows of celebrities on ASAP lol I especialyl noticed Sarah G.'s, and I was like... how do I get the same look/brows... Only last year was I able to truly work with my brows. I got this eyebrow kit from elf. I bought it because it was cheap. I thought I didnt want to waste my money if ever i wouldnt be able to pull off the "celebrity-like" kilay... hehhee... and yes, as expected, during my first few attempts, I ended up with very thick brows that my boyfriend called them "Chewbacca" brows LOL I have mastered it eventually by continuously watching tutorials.

While I have constantly read about the importance of having groomed brows, I do admit that I can be pretty lazy when it comes to brow make-up. :( What I do is to regularly have them threaded but as for the color, I prefer to have light brows. I'm able to achieve light brows through Beauty Bar's DIY Andrea Face Creme Bleach. It's very affordable for P350 because you can use it for more than 20 times. Nonetheless, thank you for these brow make-up suggestions. They will be helpful especially for brow make-up starters like me! :D

Try MUFE's aqua brow. It works magic on the brows! =)

Hello! I have a warm blonde hair and I used to bleach my brows with Sally Hansen's bleach Creme for face and I've been using it for years ever since I dyed my hair blonde. But I also use Elf's eyebrow kit cos my brows are thin so to make it a bit darker, I put on some of the gel and powder and it was a good blend with my bleached brows. But now that Sally Hansen brand is pulling out in the Philippines, I wonder how my brows would be :( I tried looking for a salon that caters bleaching of brows but way expensive for it will only last for a month. As I read this and the girl's comments, I found out new brand which is beauty bar's DIY Andrea Creme bleach. Will check one at the mall today! Thanks, Eunice! 😊
