Origins' Drink Up masks get a total makeover - here's what to expect!

This story is brought to you by Origins Philippines.

Do you think of yourself as an influencer? You don’t need to have a blog or even an Instagram account. If you enjoy talking to others about the products you love, you already are! Sometimes it’s as easy as offering to share a face mask - that’s how I got my tita hooked on the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. She so loved how it soothed her skin that she immediately bought her own tube when we got home from the beach. When I next talked to her about a month after, she told me that everyone in her office had purchased their own tubes as well!

There’s really something special about the Origins experience that makes people fall in love with the brand after trying their products. My first time was three years ago, during a special masking workshop held exclusively for Project Vanity readers. I had extremely dry and dull skin at the time, and the beauty assistant applied the Drink Up during my personalized facial. Now, I don’t usually like scented products but I really enjoyed the fresh apricot scent of this mask! The rich creamy texture felt good on my skin, and after the mask was wiped off, my skin was pleasantly soft and bouncy.

In addition to the full sized 100ml tube, I have a small one that I throw into my purse when I expect to be in a long car ride. I put it on while stuck in traffic so my time isn’t completely wasted. It’s easier to use than a sheet mask: it doesn’t look too obvious that you have anything on your face, and the only waste created is a tissue to wipe off the excess. So yeah, I am mildly obsessed about this mask, and I felt a slight panic when I heard that Origins was changing the formulation of my HG.

The Drink Up 10-Minute Hydrating Mask and Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask have debuted a fresh new look and an updated formulation. I’m glad that Origins maintained that minimalist aesthetic and love the tubes are now made of a clear, tinted material! This way, you can see exactly how much product you have left and know when you’re due for a repurchase. Also, the tubes are now a bit smaller at just 75ml each, which I feel is an improvement for two reasons. First, this brings the prices down from P1,500 to P1,250 for the 10-Minute mask, and from P1,800 to P1,450 for the Intensive Overnight mask. I think the amount is also more manageable because I’ve had my 100ml tube for over a year now and still have so much product left!

Moment of truth: how do the new formulations compare to the originals? My HG is now called the Drink Up Intensive Overnight Hydrating Mask with Avocado & Swiss Glacier Water (yes, it’s a mouthful). The new ingredients are very promising: the Swiss Glacier Water delivers the hydration which is held in place by the inclusion of Hyaluronic Acid, and Apricot Kernel Oil and Avocado Oil as nourishing occlusives. It also now contains niacinamide (listed fifth on the ingredients list) which excites me because it’s a do-all ingredient for brightening, anti-aging, and even oil control.

I’m happy to report that it has the same juicy apricot smell that I loved in the original, but that’s where the similarities end. The new formula isn’t as watery as the first so it feels a bit thicker and takes a bit longer to absorb. It has a smoother, more luxurious texture that gives my skin a dewy sheen. The morning after I first tried this mask, my skin felt a bit too heavily moisturized because I was used to applying ta generous amount with the old formula. Once I adjusted, I enjoyed the subtle glow it gave my skin. Origins says that this can give up to 72 hours of non-stop hydration and while I’m not sure how that’s possible if you wash your face every day, I do like how my skin feels better with the new formulation.

New tube meets old tube!

I don’t own a tube of the original 10-minute mask but I remember trying it before and not liking it as much as the Intensive variant. With the new Drink Up 10-Minute Hydrating Mask with Apricot & Swiss Glacier Water, however, I can better appreciate the promise of instant hydration. It also has the Swiss Glacier Water, Apricot Kernel Oil, and Hyaluronic Acid but what jumped out at me was the squalane listed fourth on the ingredients list! This lightweight and non-greasy oil is a fave for many skincare enthusiasts because of how it quickly absorbs into the skin.

The texture of the 10-minute mask is much lighter than the overnight one, and it feels like it doesn’t sink into my skin as deeply. I think that’s really the difference between the two masks - this one is quick fix hydration while Intensive slowly but thoroughly works its way down the layers. This formula promises 24 hours of hydration though; if you don’t have time to do several steps of skincare in the morning, you can slap this mask on while you get on with other preps then just tissue off the excess before doing your makeup. I actually thought of all my makeup artist friends while using this because instead of carrying a bunch of sheet masks for their clients, they can just pop this tube into their traincase and save on space.

As much as I love these masks, I feel I should point out that they contain essential oils that contribute to the skincare benefits and natural fragrance of the products. My skin is okay with them but they may trigger a reaction in extremely sensitive skin. If you’re not sure about your skin’s reaction, Origins offers free Feel Good Mini Facials at all their stores to give you a chance to try these masks before buying them. No purchase required!

I know that they seem quite pricey but they come out so much more cost-efficient when you do the math! You can buy up to 16 pieces of a cheap sheet mask for the same price as the 10-minute Drink Up, but you get a lot more uses out of the tube—I know this because I’ve been using the original tube for a year and have just barely made it halfway through! This is also a more eco-friendly option, as Origins uses very minimal packaging and opts for materials made from recycled content. The brand is also working towards a net zero carbon emission by next year, in addition to supporting reforestation projects worldwide. So if you are looking for ways to make your beauty routine more sustainable, do consider to this tube packaging instead of single-use masks.

All the other Origins masks are now also available in 75ml tubes. The Clear Improvement, Original Skin, and Out of Trouble (another HG!) masks are P1,250 each while the GinZing Peel Off Mask is P1,450 and the Mega-Mushroom Mask is P2,250.

If you’ve tried both the new and original Drink Up variants, let us know which one you liked better! And do share your own stories about influencing other people’s beauty buys in the comments below - we’d love to hear them!

Origins has stores available in SM Makati, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, and SM North EDSA. You can also shop them online at Lazada.
