Melt-free summer wedding makeup tips

Aside from December, the summer season is a popular choice for marrying couples. It's usually a toss-up between an English garden-inspired motif or a laid-back seaside affair. Having an outdoor event in summer makes sense (almost zero percent chance of rain) but with this summer being one of the hottest in recent history, it begs the question: How do I stop my makeup from melting?

Fret not! Below are easy tips to make sure the only melting to happen will be from the kilig of romance.

First, and we cannot stress this enough, prep your skin. The five additional steps to your skin care routine may seem like a hassle, but without creating this fool-proof foundation, even long-wearing makeup won't have anything to cling to.

Next would be to use long-lasting makeup products. Different products have improved so much with the different choices. It shouldn’t be that difficult to find a hard-working product that performs well, for any budget. Below are some of our faves!

Eyebrows

You can splurge on a well-loved pencil from Shiseido or tint your brows with the well-loved Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set of MAC (P1,000 at MAC stores). You can even define your brows by using a slanted edge brush and pick out some pigment from the mascara wand, if you want more defined arches.

My personal favorite is the Brow Gel of BYS (P399 at department stores) topped with a bit of matte brown eyeshadow to set it for a strong and well-defined brow. You can find more staff brow favorites here, but take note that not all are waterproof!

Eyes

Blame the romantic in me (or my contact lenses), but I always end up with a tear or two during weddings. No one wants raccoon eyes though, so I suggest sticking with cult favorite K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner (P795 at Beauty Bar) to help your eye makeup survive the waterworks.

Another tried and tested duo would be Maybelline’s Hypercurl Volume Express Waterproof mascara (P199 at department stores) and HyperSharp Power Black liquid eyeliner (P299 at department stores). With a proper eyelid primer, this power combo will surely last you the whole wedding.

Cheeks

Stain your cheeks for a natural and budge-proof flush! Some of the hands-down favorites? Benefit’s Benetint, Cha-Cha Tint, and PosieTint (P1,800 each at Benefit stores), Happy Skin’s Shut Up and Kiss Me Lip and Cheek Mousse (P699 at Beauty Bar), and The Body Shop’s Lip and Cheek Stain (P795 at The Body Shop stores).

Lips

With a million and one lipstick possibilities, it should be easy to find the perfect lip color for you. With matte colors being all the rage, and formulations improving with each release, from budget-friendly tubes to non-drying liquid formulas like Inglot. And if you ever find ColourPop from a reseller or have a friend headed to the US, do snap up their products! They glide on like a dream with a wide-range of flattering colors from nude to blues!

This last step, for me, is possibly the most important step: lock your makeup in place, and freshen it without adding more pigment. How do you do this? Try L’Oreal’s Infallible Setting Spray (P500 at department stores), Makeup Fixing Mist by Pixi by Petra (P795 online), or City Color’s All Set Setting Spray with Silica (about P329 to P450 at different online stores).

And, that’s about it. Make sure you bring your oil blotting sheets, your best smile, and celebrate love and forever!
