Matte's Hot: Seven matte lippies under P500
Matte lipsticks are all the rage right now. Those tubes devoid of shine and packed with bold, highly-pigmented shades have definitely taken over our makeup bags and pouts.
As much as we love them though, getting the perfect matte lip isn't always as easy as swiping the tube over your lips. It's best to exfoliate and apply lip balm beforehand. If you have dry or chapped lips, you'll need to use a lip primer or a lip mask at night as the matte formula can enhance unsightly lines, cracks, and flakiness.
Thankfully, brands have been listening and have come out with creamy and moisturizing mattes, which are easier on our lips. We’ve picked out some of the recent and not-so-recent releases that are within our P500 budget!
Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick (P299 at department stores and BeautyMNL)
You may have seen Georgina Wilson’s commercial for the product, showing off the wide color range to choose from. The brand prides itself on this lipstick’s long-wearing creamy formula that still leaves a matte finish. Praises abound for the way it glides smoothly and doesn’t dry your lips out!
Pink Sugar Creamy Matte Lipstick (P349 at SM Beauty)
These trendy lipsticks from local brand Pink Sugar are for those who are not shy in using color. Get to know the 10-color-strong matte lipstick line and find full swatches here!
Revlon Super Matte Lustrous Lipstick (P350 at department stores and BeautyMNL)
This iconic lipstick from the brand actually comes in finishes aside from matte, as featured here a couple of years ago. The brand highlights their “LiquiSilk” formula that ensure color and softness. It also features a lightweight texture; perfect for gals who hate the feeling of having a lipstick on.
Avon Ultra Color Matte Lipstick (P379 via the Avon mobile app or an Avon representative)
Moisturizing lipsticks are a staple for this brand so I was pretty excited when they came out with their first line of matte lippies. They have the slightest bit of sheen and slip but the regular price tag is very reasonable. Avon often holds sales so you can grab any (or all!) of the six shades at around P259 only.
L’Oréal Paris Color Riche Velvet Pinks La Vie en Rose (P400 at BeautyMNL)
Be inspired by celebrities with this all-pink matte lipstick collection from L’Oréal! Each gorgeous shade is named after one of their brand ambassadors, and the matte formula is made with velvety pigments infused with micro fragments of mother-of-pearl. It is currently exclusively available online at BeautyMNL.
Features & Shades Luscious Lipstick (P299 at department stores)
The local brand recently relaunched their cosmetics as Features & Shades, which we got on video! As lipstick is a staple in any collection, F&S Luscious Lipstick comes in creamy and matte finishes. There are nine pigmented shades to choose from for the matte finish.
Our Editor-in-Chief Liz loves Brick and raved about it here.
Nyx Full Throttle Lipstick (P460 at SM Beauty)
Just released at the end of March here in the Philippines, this waterproof matte lipstick is a dream come true! Aside from the amazing colors, users abroad have raved about its non-drying and non-transferring formula. The FB page of the brand mentioned the product’s availability at specific SM branches so far, but we’re hoping we can get it in all branches soon.
