Five expensive beauty products that are actually good bargains
Friday, September 14, 2012 at 11:26AM The richest people that I personally know are ironically the most frugal ones out there. If they can save on something, they would. Every cent counts when they’re doing business or just simply purchasing something for themselves! This means that, even if they have the money to buy something (say a designer bag) they won’t do it if it sets them back more than what they get out of the deal (vis a vis personal gratification).
And yet, these people understand the value of high quality products, and spend accordingly. They have cost-per-wear down to a science. So that got me thinking: what are high-end beauty products that are absolutely worth their hefty price tags? I have five suggestions!
Guerlain Meteorites Perles in Teint Dore 03. I reviewed this wonder powder last April 2011. I’ve been using it almost every time I wear makeup. In one year and five months, I’ve only used up maybe 25-30% of the powder! That aside, however, the powder is the best complexion enhancer that I’ve tried EVER. It smoothens and illuminates skin instantly. To do all that you only need a bit of powder. It’s worth P3,000 but for a product that you can use up to three years, that price is a steal.

Benefit Hervana Blush. This is a fantastic blush because it goes perfectly with fair to medium skintones and most makeup looks you can think of. It’s a harmonious blend of peach, pink, and mauve, so it’s very versatile. It’s P1,600 but you get 8 grams of product which will take forever to finish. (The blush has good staying power on skin too!)

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils. I bought my 450ml bottle last November. Ten months later, I’ve only used up 40%! I think my bottle is good for another year more. :) This is my ultimate beauty product (as published on Cosmo.ph) because it’s not just a makeup remover, it’s skincare. Totally worth the ~P4,000 I blew on it.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. “A replenishing elixir...to visibly restore the appearance of skin by morning”. I used to use this stuff every night, but I noticed that it doesn’t work as well if I don’t give it a rest. The best way to maximize it is to use normal moisturizer say three nights in a row, and on the fourth, use Kiehl’s MRC. You will notice a huuuge difference in the morning! It’s also economical as you only need 4-5 drops per use; it’s P2,880 a bottle.
Kérastase Elixir Ultime. I have far from perfect hair, it being dry and thin, but this hair oil/serum gives me a fighting chance. It smoothens, conditions, and de-frizzes my hair in a jiffy. I just use one to two pumps (depending on how famished or unmanageable my hair is at the moment). A bottle of this is P2, 215, which is fair considering how little you need per use.
So there you go! :) I've raved about these products before but I just thought I'd compile them in a list of expensive but totally worth it products.
Have a great weekend!

You got it right there Ms. Liz! The richest people are the ones that are most frugal too! This post is really helpful! :)
Does it really matter what cleansing oil you use? So far i have only tried human nature's sunflower cleansing oil and i think its good enough. It gets the job down so, haven't thought of trying out other brands.
Hi Liz,
May I ask, is the Meteorites used like powder all over the face to set foundation, or as a highlighter?
Another expensive but value for money product I think is the NARS blusher. I have been using Deep Throat since last year and there is barely a dent in the pan! I wanted to buy Orgasm since that's the one everyone raves about but the sales assistant told me it would not suit my coloring and recommended Deep Throat instead - I use it all the time!
Cheers!
I am definitely wanting to try Guerlain Meteorites Perles, Benefit Hervana Blush and Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil <3 but sadly, I can't afford it right now because I am still a student and just saving some of my money to buy beauty products. I totally agree that most of the richest people are very thrifty. Haha. I know some and would always think of ways how to lessen the prices of what they will be purchasing! :) Well, I believe that when it comes to makeup, you get what you paid for so it's okay to "sometimes" buy expensive products. If you can afford them, then go! But for some who can't, save some money and always check first if the product you are going to buy is worth it. :>
For me, the best splurge I made was buying a clarisonic mia, it really made a
difference on my skin (I have eczema and allergies) and since Im still in college, my skin gets stressed a lot, the clarisonic keeps my skin clear and smooth during midterms and finals :D
I wish I could come up with a list of trusty products that are pricey but great investments in the future too! Lusting over everything listed here! :)
Best splurge for me at the moment would be my Benefit Coralista blush. You are spot on about the staying power of their blushes plus this blush is morena-friendly and a little really goes a long way. Definitely worth every peso. :)
i am in LOVE with the midnight recovery concentrate. it's crazy effective and i have already downed two bottles. it lasts forever and the results are obvious. it leaves the most amazing glow in the morning--and can even beat off those galing sa sakit blues.
I've read great things about Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Although I don't have a bottle, it does seem like a worthy investment! I have to see for myself!
These are indeed few of the beauty guru favorites either on blog or on youtube. Although I'm just using the sample sizes, I fell in love the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm! I already finished 2 sample tubes and am still thinking if I should buy the full size, it is crazy expensivo... so If ever decide to get it, the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm would be my most expensive skin care purchase. In addition to that, only a pea size amount is needed for the whole face so a full size would probably take years to finish.
Where can I buy Guerlain? (I hope you don't mind me asking teehee :p)
And I do agree with cosmo!!! I once met up with a beauty blogger - she told me to invest on skin care. I used to spend a lot on make up.. but now I am more concerned about my skin. Plus, what good can make up do (probably will only make it worse!) if you don't have a clean face?
And most of the comments seem to have a thing with Kiehls midnight recovery concentrate. Thinking whether I should save up for it too! Will do my research :D Kalurkey! But I have to be sure I'm spending on the right product diba? :)
I agree that some products are better off splurging on. Im enticed by Shu's cleansing oil and Benefits Hervana.
I have many Benefit blushes in my kikay closet (closet talaga?). Next to Sugarbomb, my favorite is Hervana! I love how I can play with the colors and mix them to create a look that I want, gusto ko kasi iba ibang look everyday para hindi nakakasawa, so I play around. And yes, the staying power is superb, I rarely need retouch when I wear them, for me the price I paid is all worth it kasi I can use it everyday and I can experiment plus Benefit is a good brand so I know my skin is safe.
I missed a lot of your posts because I went on vacation! Glad to find that the new ones are very helpful! :) Need to save up for that Benefit blush! :D I have always been looking for a blush that has a great staying power and that can go along with most make-up looks. Going pale after a few hours has always been my problem, and now I have a brand to keep in mind the next time I buy a blush. Thanks, Ms. Liz!
Wow, these products are really worth splurging on! I just can't afford most of these yet hahaha. Probably Benefit products would be the ones I may splurge first! :)
