Got mature hair? The Dear Beauté Himawari Smooth & Repair Shampoo and Conditioner are made for aging locks

Dear Beauté Himawari shampoos and conditioners are always well-loved here at Project Vanity. Liz featured the hair combo on her new finds way back in 2015 and the launch of the Volume & Repair variant in 2016 showed great results. A travel-size sample set was even included in the Project Vanity J-Beauty Kit!

Now a new variant was recently released and it’s especially formulated for mature hair: the Dear Beauté Himawari Smooth & Repair Shampoo and Conditioner (P745/500ml each). Similar to the other variants of the brand, this product makes hair more manageable using Sunflower Oil and other Sunflower Plant Extracts. This variant is made specifically for hard to style and tangled hair, using "4 types of amino-based cleansing agents" and Lipidure to make hair smooth and healthy. It's also silicon-free and sulfate-free to make it gentle for the hair.

I’ve been growing my hair long for a while now in its natural grey state and I’ve noticed that the strands are more prone to tangling. They also feel quite dry. I remember consulting with a hairdresser before the pandemic and she told me that this is one of the common issues for grey hair as its lesser pigment contributes to the dryness. I have since learned to go for moisturizing variants in any hair care lines instead of my previous volumizing preference. I felt that this new Himawari variant in Smooth & Repair would fit my current hair needs and I had high expectations before trying out the products

So did the Dear Beauté Himawari Smooth & Repair Shampoo and Conditioner meet my expectations? It’s a resounding yes but with a few tweaks that will depend on your hair type and lifestyle.

I like how the pair made my hair less frizzy and less dry. It feels soft to touch and the natural fragrance they leave is pleasant. However, the products didn’t quite make my hair “tangle-free all the way to the tips.” I’ll have to attribute this to how tangled my grey hair can really get most of the time. In fairness though, my hair has gotten easier to comb compared to before so I just brush out the tangles it gets a few times a day.

Another thing to note is that you have to be careful not to use too much of the products. One pump of the Shampoo is already enough for my long hair so if you have shorter hair, you can get away with less! The oils in the formula add weight to the hair so you have to figure out the right amount for you.

I find that I can get away with using the Shampoo alone for a couple of days and just use the Conditioner 1-2x a week. I find the Shampoo moisturizing enough on its own. The Conditioner though adds that extra smoothness to the hair that I really appreciate. Again, I don’t use it for consecutive washes as I don’t shampoo my hair daily and using the shampoo and conditioner combo every time I wash makes my hair a bit oily during that second-day hair.

Overall, I’m loving the Dear Beauté Himawari Smooth & Repair Shampoo and Conditioner. I can see myself finishing these two up especially during this cooler season where the air is extra dry and my hair normally gets frizzy. There's also a 360ml Value Pack (P495 each) for both the shampoo and conditioner so it's possible to refill the big 500ml pump bottles after finishing them up. There's only a slight difference in price between the two but at least you won't end up with a lot of pump bottles that'll just end up in the trash. But since a little goes a long way for these hair products, they will definitely last you a while, more so if you have short to medium length hair.
