New from Smashbox: Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation and the CC Spot Concealer

I'm vain enough to want to look good while I'm playing tennis, which means that I always have at least eyebrows, lipstick, and my base on whenever I'm in court. I can't help myself! The challenge though is finding products that will actually stay put after a hundred balls and buckets of sweat later. Lucky me that Smashbox Philippines sent me their newest foundation and concealer some weeks back. I swear they're so good that they can survive an uber sweaty training session!

Let's start with the new Smashbox CC Spot Concealer (P1,200). This is a highly pigmented, extremely water-resistant liquid concealer. It's so pigmented that a tiny dot is all you need to cover up an extra dark and/or red blemish. This is reinforced by the pointed, felt-tip applicator, much like an eyeliner's. It's bendy so you won't painfully poke yourself but it affords you the precision you need and will not waste precious product.

The texture of the product is runny - it's watery off the tube, but it dries quickly. Emphasis on quickly! Once it sets in about 15 seconds, you won't be able to blend it anymore. This is why you have to work fast with this concealer. Once you dot it, you must pat it down to blend immediately. Otherwise you'll be left with rather solid dots on your face, haha.

You also have to be careful about keeping this capped tightly at all times. The thin runny product could seep out easily if you lay the tube to its side.

As for the shade match, I found a fairly good match in Light Medium. It's half a step lighter than I would like for my spots, but it's easily covered up by the right shade of powder foundation. Btw, this is exclusively a spot concealer. It's too heavy for eyebags!

All that being said, the Smashbox CC Spot Concealer is a major winner for me. It's perfect for those with seriously oily skin, deep blemishes and scars, or (in my case) those engaging in sporty and/or sweaty activities. It will stay on with zero fading during the day, and only minimal fading after an intense workout. I just wish that there's more product in the tube (just 2.26 grams!) but then again you really just need a shockingly tiny amount per use.

Try this if you need a reliable heavy coverage spot concealer!

The first time I touched the Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation (P1,950) I honestly thought that it was a cream foundation. It was so velvety to the point of feeling wet to the touch! I was surprised to find out that it's actually powder - not quite anything I've tried before. The texture of this foundation is so smooth and light that it's almost hard to believe that it can pack in a punch when it comes to coverage and staying power.

Technology, guys.

Anyway, this particular foundation is created with light-diffusing polymers that will blur out imperfections and make skin look photogenic - yes, even without filters. This is true. This foundation can make skin look like I'm wearing three layers of makeup (to my eye): a liquid foundation, a powder foundation, and an HD finishing powder. It does look great on camera!

I apply about two thin layers to get heavy coverage. I use a buffing brush to get even application instead of the thin sponge this comes with. However, come retouch time, I use the sponge for convenience.

Here I'm wearing the Smashbox CC Spot Concealer + Photo Filter foundation in Shade 2. It's a good medium yellow shade match, but like the concealer it's just a tad lighter than I prefer. It looks great nonetheless; I'm just being fussy!

More important to my purposes though is that this stays on my skin even after an intense round of tennis training. Yes, it does fade, but it fades evenly and it doesn't transfer to my towel when I pat my face. I can still see some left over after the work out. It will of course perform better under normal circumstances - it's perfect for events and long days at work!

So yes, do try the Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation if you're looking for matte, medium to heavy coverage that's absolutely photogenic. This also will not disappoint in terms of staying power! ^_^ It only has SPF10 so it will not have a white cast should you need to wear it in anything involving flash photography.

Lemme know what you think as always!
