Which Happy Skin foundation is for you?

Happy Skin is famous for their lipsticks that flatter and moisturize, but did you know that they have good bases as well? The two co-founders, Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez and Rissa Mananquil-Trillo, formulated foundations that intuitively address Filipina needs. They also wanted to create shades that will blend with our natural warm tones, whether we are as fair as Jacqe or as morena as Rissa.

So, to help you decide which of their bases you should get, I made a quick review of each formula! I've been using these bases for quite a while now. I also have the Second Skin Cream but just forgot to include it in the photo.

Insta Beauty Blur Cream Primer Foundation (P1,299)

This is a tinted primer that intends to soften fine lines and pores. It comes in one shade, a sheer brightening yellow, which blends on all skin tones. If you prefer a barely-there base that imperceptibly makes your skin prettier, this is a good pick! It can also be used as primer on top of more heavy coverage foundations.

Zit Zapper Second Skin Cream Foundation (P1,299)

The ZZ Cream is a unique base as it contains salicylic acid that helps clear red spots and lessen oil. Like the Blur Cream, it comes in only one shade, and should match fair to medium complexions. Get this if you want something that helps heal pimples while lessening their appearance! It also has SPF 20 PA++.

Second Skin Creme Silicone Free Foundation (P1,199)

The SS Cream was among Happy Skin's initial release of skin prettifiers two years ago. This silicone-free foundation has medium coverage that DOES look like skin as promised; it's so natural, but covers up blemishes and discoloration even with just one layer.

If your skin reacts to silicone (breakouts, clogged pores), this is one of the few products locally available that doesn't have that ingredient. It comes in two shades for morena to fair skin.

Don't Get Mad, Get Even Hydrating Liquid Foundation (P999)

I think this is one of Happy Skin's most underrated products! This mid to heavy coverage foundation hydrates my combination skin while staying on all day. It has hyaluronic acid that helps keep skin smooth and flake-free - very useful if you like traveling abroad in colder climes, or if you have dry skin.

It comes in three shades. The darkest shade is my perfect match, so if you're darker than I am, you may find the line a bit limiting.

Don't Get Mad, Get Even Hydrating Powder Foundation (P1,399 for the compact and P899 for the refill)

This is my Holy Grail powder foundation aside from Shisedo. It has the ridiculous buttery smoothness and fine-tuned coverage of high-end foundations without the crazy price tag! I mean, I know it ain't cheap at P2,300 for both the compact and refill but that's a great price for the quality. It's comparable to Lancôme, Shu Uemura, and Shiseido foundations - but those cost almost P4,000 for the refill and compact.

Believe me, I know.

My shade here is the darkest, #3. It has three shades like the liquid foundation and yes, if you're darker than me, you may be a bit frustrated. I wish Happy Skin would come out with more shades for their foundation line! At the same time I feel super lucky that I found a shade match. You just might too, so I suggest swatching these in person.

And that is that. ^_^ Have you tried Happy Skin's bases? How were they? If you haven't yet, what's your pick?
