We tried out Cream Silk's "light" conditioners - do they actually deliver?

I care about how my hair looks more than I care to admit. I agonize over bad hair cuts more than bad skin or makeup #FOTDs! But because I don’t have the time to bother with hair tools and styling products, I prefer to get wash-and-wear hair styles that require very little maintenance. My straight hair is usually in a lob (long bob) with slight layers at the end, and I just use a normal shampoo and conditioner.

Yep, my hair care routine is pretty boring. I never even really paid much attention to conditioners because I just use whatever’s in the bathroom. But when the new Creamsilk Hydra Fresh Conditioners promised a light formula that’s non-greasy and easy to rinse, I got curious. I already use the regular formula so I wondered if this would actually be any different!

There are two variants available so I opted to get the Fresh and Hydrated (P149 for 150ml) variant which is supposed to be for oily and greasy hair like mine. Actually, it’s my scalp that feels greasy but my hair is dry because I recently had it dyed.

Den, who struggles with a dry scalp and limp hair, tried the Fresh and Bouncy variant (P149 for 150ml).

My first impression of the conditioner was that it felt like a watered-down regular Creamsilk Conditioner, so I checked the ingredients list of both. While they have some similarities, there are key differences that indicate the difference in formulation such as the inclusion of glycerin and dimethicone being a bit lower on the ingredients list. There is a slight floral scent in the conditioner.

I didn’t really notice a change in my hair after the first wash, but I liked how quick it was to wash off. I only got to admire the results after the fourth wash, when I could feel my hair being softer and bouncier than usual. When I got my After photo taken, Nine and Den pointed out how shiny my hair now looked compared to before I started using Hydra Fresh! Considering that the improvement was both something I could feel and that others could actually see, the Fresh and Hydrated conditioner now has me convinced.

I also appreciated how this conditioner maintained the hydration without making my hair feel too heavy. The regular Creamsilk conditioner does a decent job of keeping my hair moisturized, but the thick formula weighs my hair down so it looks straight and limp. By comparison, the Hydra Fresh conditioner is lightweight yet still hydrating. I’m so happy with how well this works to manage my hair that I’m all set to repurchase!

Meanwhile, Den shares that she was excited to try this conditioner because it takes her forever to rinse out conditioner from her long, thick hair. That’s why she rarely conditions even though her hair needs the extra moisture. She’s pickier about scents than I am but says that she likes the smell of the Fresh and Bouncy conditioner, and that it has a subtle scent that stays in her hair all day. The formula she tried is supposed to have a volumizing effect and I think it shows in her After photos - the hair is sleek but still has body! She says she’s not as prone to the buhaghag look anymore, and because it’s now easier for her to condition regularly, her hair is looking and feeling healthier as well.

So, which one should you go for? Honestly, both Hydra Fresh conditioners share the same ingredients list so it seems like you can go with either one. Let us know if you’ve tried these conditioners!
