Leather love story: the Tory Burch Medium 797 Satchel

My mother thinks I'm careless with my money, but I think I'm not doing too bad at 24. I save up and I know when I need to back off from a potentially wasteful purchase. Living independently from my parents taught me difficult financial lessons - way more effective than wordy lectures, I think! Nonetheless I want to learn more about financial wisdom ala Frugal Honey this year.

But. I work hard, so if there's something I really like that I can afford, I buy it. I've been in love with a bag from Tory Burch since November and I finally got it shortly before Christmas!

I actually bought a Tory Burch tote first. I liked it in the store, but when I opened it at home my feelings have drastically changed. I thought it was a bit too plain and too big for me. I mean, if I were to blow money on a luxe bag I might as well get something that looks like it! So I took the tote back to the store and purchased the bag that I originally liked, which was the Tory Burch Medium 797 Satchel.

I love it! The leather is so soft and fine to the touch. It's a bit heavier than I'm used to, but I don't mind because there's a body strap included anyway. It's roomy enough inside (I can fit a pair of flats and a chunky wallet) and it's the right size for my frame.

This was supposed to be out of stock (Greenbelt 5) but the Tory Burch in Rustan's Makati still had one last black one. It took me a while to decide because I also liked the calf leather/suede forest green version, but in the end practicality won over. Everybody needs the perfect black bag the same way they would need a little black dress.

So there you go. ;) Expect to see this bag all the time this year!

Its bigger than I expected. hihi. Judging it from your IG photo, thought it was just a small satchel bag.

sayang, you shouldve went for the forest green color. you could find a "more perfect" black bag out ther. the forest green color will sure stand out, looks really sosyal, and i think the color could been easily be paired with almost anything. and yeah, looks more suitable for your age.

oh well, you could save up for another bag!

It's a handsome bag, Liz. I like the fact that it has a shoulder strap (I like sling/messenger-type bags), -and- a carry handle. It not only looks chic, it also looks like its very serviceable.

Hmm I do agree with Mimi, the forest green one stands out more but hey you wanted a flexible bag that would match anything so I understand why you got the black one instead! I'm already having a hard time thinking of how I will match the green one too, no matter how pretty.

Love the bag! So chic!

Super pretty bag Ms. Liz! I wish I could be as financially independent as you when I turn 24. You are such an inspiration! I can never say it enough!

I think it's practical; its being roomy is an advantage. Personally I like sling bags/satchels because I can use my hands for other occupations without being constrained to my bag. :-)

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMaybelle

I think that bag is the most practical choice. It's cross-body and it can fit a lot of stuff. Plus, it looks really classic! So happy for you, Ms. Liz. :)

Beautiful bag indeed. I just love Tory Burch bag designs. They are elegant-looking, classy and chic. Like Ms. Pat, I also love shoulder-strapped bags because I find it more comfy to use especially if a carry handle comes with it. I think I love the forest green one, but it may not jive with some of your outfit unlike the black one, which can be used with any colors. Lemming on this baby :) thanks for sharing Ms. Liz! ♥

I like what you chose it's sophisticated enough and can be paired with different outfits coz it's black unlike the green one I think you'll have a hard time pairing the green bag with your different outfits. And I absolutely agree with you Liz, every girl needs a perfect black bag same thing with black dress :)

January 10, 2013 | Unregistered Commenteryan

So pretty. And it's the kind that'll last years and you can make pamana to your kids haha :)

Ang ganda. I like that it's just the right size for everything. You're right, the "calf leather/suede forest green version" is beautiful but "everybody needs the perfect black bag the same way they would need a little black dress". --> totally agree with this

If I were to buy a satchel, I guess it would be in this style. It's classy and casual at the same time. Looks luxe but can be used anyway with anything. It can be my go-to or everyday bag.

"so if there's something I really like that I can afford, I buy it." --> kinda my motto when I have something I really want to buy. But since I'm still a student, it's: I diligently save instead of I work hard.

Good choice ate! It is the year of greens though, but the black bag can surely withstand changing seasons! :) Classy!

Lovely lovely bag. You could pair it with a lot of looks and it wouldn't look out of place. Great purchase on your part! :)

January 11, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKim

Honestly i like the green one liz.. but then you can never go wrong with a black bag! :)

January 11, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterchiena

I so love bags, and better choice!:)big bag for a big girl!:)

January 11, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterOhms

Oh my gosh! A drool-worthy pick! I would've gone for the black one as well just because it's more practical. I'm a purse-of-the-moment kind of girl and pag gusto ko talaga yung bag, I'd wear it paulit-ulit until masawa. Hehe.:-) And I think yours is a versatile choice because you can definitely amp it up or tone it done, depending on your mood. Love your outfit on the fourth picture! It's very nautical chic!:-) Ganda!!!:-) How do you maintain pala the bag? Like after use? Did they offer you some type of leather care for that? Sabi kase ng husband ko (he worked for Wilsons Leather before), high maintenance daw mga ganyan na bags because you have to take care of the leather with some kind of leather lotion. The couple of bags that I have that are made of canvass. Talo n'ya pa ko, sya meron. Hehe.:-)

sayang, the green one sana! anyway im gonna buy it. hehe. when i showed your pics to my friends, they told me the forest green is much prettier.:) anyway i guess your black bag works too. hehe

thanks for the reference pics!!!!

Waiting to decide for two months ish is a long time. Good for you on buying that! If I'm beside you at Rustans/ TB, you would have made that purchase the first time! What can I say, I'm a great shopping buddy :p I like the leather/suede one too! But cant go wrong with the black. Care to share how much? ;) Anyway, congrats on your new baby!

January 12, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterManilaJen

Yay! Congrats on your new baby! :D I am practically using my newly- acquired bag every single day too! :D

When you work hard for your money, you deserve an award every once in a while! And man, that is one gorgeous reward! I'm planning to buy the Tory flats too, as well as some arm candy as well. It's hard being a girl. :D

January 13, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDani

My mom got the same bag too! It was on sale at Greenbelt 5 when she bought it just last week. I convinced her into buying this bag over other styles because I was secretly planning to borrow it in the future. haha! Love its versatility! <3

January 14, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAce Josue

this is definitely my style, black, not too big and stylish! oh well, I can't afford it... hehehe

January 14, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHollie

Ahhh this is just perfect. There's a perfect balance between the choice of the classic black color and youthfulness of the satchel. Great find Ms. Liz! I hope someday I'd get the chance to splurge on luxury items like this. :3
