Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream

Good Monday morning! Thought I'd start the week with a skincare review. It's something I've been using consistently since late May, so I thought it's about time to blog it with conviction. :P

The Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream (P1,800) is a brightening eye cream that promises to fade dark circles and smoothen lines. It's an extremely lightweight product that gets absorbed on skin without leaving any greasy residue. It doesn't have any fancy star ingredients that are only called in letters and numbers; what it does have is extracts of linseed, almond, wheat, oat, apple, and plankton.

What I love about the product

  • It's incredibly light. It almost melts upon contact with skin, making it easy to massage evenly on lids and under eyes.
  • Moisturizing even if the cream isn't heavy at all. In four months I've used it, I've noticed that the skin under my eyes has become more supple, elastic, and the lines, smoother.
  • Okay let me just emphasize that - my fine lines, especially near the corners of my eyes, have considerably lessened.

August 2011 - Notice the fine lines near my tear ducts (Sorry this is the most accurate before photo I can find! My undereyes were still like this before I started using It's Potent! The lines smoothed out when I used La Mer but went back when I ran out of the cream).

September 2012 - Lines have smoothed out. Perhaps it's because that I now use eye cream at least once a day. I'm rather lazy when it comes to eye cream, to be honest, so the lesser lines may mean that my under eyes are just more moisturized.

  • I also like that It's Potent! is perfect under makeup. It doesn't leave a film on skin, thus acting as a fantastic primer/base for concealer. It's also not wet so the makeup doesn't crease after a few hours.
  • Doesn't worsen the small bumps I have around my eyes. Most of the eye creams I've tried can be too heavy, thus clogging pores near the nose.
  • Doesn't irritate my eyes. No sting, and I don't wake up with nasty eye mucus in the morning.
  • Cute packaging, as expected from Benefit. That's a glass jar with a fake cork cap.

What I don't like about the product

  • It didn't pull through on its promise to lighten my under eyes. There wasn't a noticeable decrease on the darkness of my eye bags even after four months of use.

Recommendations

If you're in your early to mid-20s and looking for something just to maintain the youth of your under eyes, then the Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream is a great choice. It's light, moisturizing, and is ideal under makeup. I can't guarantee that it will lighten your eye bags but it can help with the fine lines.

Verdict

I have two other eye creams in my stash but It's Potent! is the one I like the most. Even if it didn't lighten my bags, it's the one that wears well under makeup, feels gentle and light on my eye area, and serves my primary need to keep my skin supple and elastic.

It's not perfect, but it's the one I need. :)

Sooo...what's your eye cream of the moment? Is it any good?

eye candy packaging! Oh, the cream is so expensive.. hahay.. I am 21 years old and I already have fine lines in my eye area.. they are not so dominant but if someone will look at me closer.. it is noticeable.. This product would really be a good help for me..

Thanks for the review!

Product would be so perfect if it brightens too!
But I can see in the picture that your fine lines have lessened.
Not bad! Though it is quite expensive.. :p

I don't think any product can lighten dark circles. The darkness comes not from hyperpigmentation, but from increased visibility of the veins underneath the skin due to the thinning of the skin caused by lack of sleep. If only this product didn't claim to be able to do something it can't (thus creating expectations that can't be fulfilled), it would be perfect!

I've read an article before that under eye circles maybe caused by lack of sleep and/ or water. Some have genetic causes. Unfortunately i have genetically acquired racoon eyes..:( im using Celetque's eye cream. It did tighten and reduced fine lines, but it didnt brighten my dark circles significantly. I am forever under the mercy of concealers!!:(

I love Benefit and this is one of their products that I've been dying to try! It's great to read a review form you Ms. Liz, at least I know what to look forward to, with that kind of price tag talagang I would expect results and it's good that you gave an honest review about it and that's what I love about your blog, you really try to tell your readers the good and the bad about a product :)

Looks promising :) I'm using Garnier brightening eyeroll for depuffing my bags. I want to try Nivea Q10 for its moisturizing and skin firming properties

At the very least the fine lines have lessened.
I hate fine lines more than dark under eyes.
Dark under eyes are easier to conceal kasi.

Kaya lang price is too steep ha...mas mura pa si Olay. have you tried their eye cream?

My eye cream is "Bright Eyed" from the brand SUPER by Dr. Nicholas Perricone (lol, whatta mouthful). It smells like melons so it's really enjoyable to apply. It's the only eye cream I've ever tried, so I love it, but you can't get it in the Philippines so I'm going for the Bobbi Brown one once mine is used up (which it is far from being, btw).

I tend to be allergic to Benefit stuff so I just like to stare at them. HEHE. As usual, the packaging on that eye cream is gorgeous!

Hay, it's so hard or almost impossible to reduce dark circles talaga. Still this is a great product given that it's a good base for concealers. :D fine lines away with you! :D

As usual! A very amazing product from Benefit :) i think this product is great for people who are conscious with their super obvious lines & eyebags:) as for the price, well. THIS IS BENEFIT so it's not that affordable for everyone. But as for me, I'll try this! :) because you recommended it Ms. liz :P :)

I've hit pan on my Good Skin Labs Eyliplex-2 but it hasn't been able to tame my lines :( I only use the night cream too because the day cream doesn't sit well with makeup. It's good to hear that this eye cream from Benefit does wonders for the fine lines. I might try this since I've run out of Eyliplex-2 and this is not as expensive as the other high end eye creams out there. Thanks for the review!

I don't know if it's a typo but were you using it for more than 1 year? The caption on your pics say August 2011 and September 2012.

Hi girls! Thanks for the feedback, as usual!

Hi Nestle - Sorry didn't explain it properly in the post. That August 2011 pic is the most accurate before photo I can find! My undereyes were still like this before I started using It's Potent! The lines smoothed out when I used La Mer but went back when I ran out of the cream.

And here I thought I'd found the answer to my huge undereye circles na :( Oh well. This looks nice though, because fine lines under the eyes are also a problem for me. Maybe in the future I'll try this :)

Thanks for another informative review! :) One of my woes is my dark circles and eyebags as well. I will check this out when I passby Benefit.

Thanks for the product review. Really insightful. And I also have the same issues with my eyes including the small bumps. It would be cool if it did lighten under eye circles but still worth looking into. Do you suggest this for minor creases only?

October 3, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterYca

I've read a couple of reviews about this already and majority say that it's super lightweight and it doesn't sting at all but it's important to put only a tinyweenee amount to and apply under eyes using a light tapping motion of the ring finger to prevent any discomfort, etc when putting so much. I've never tried any potent eye cream so far. I still have my St. Ives cucumber destressing eye gel which I like for soothing my underye area and reducing the puffiness but as for lightening dark circles, tea bags are still the best home remedy! :)

October 3, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJoanna

*sigh* Still no hope for a semi-affordable eye cream that WILL darken my under-eye area. :( I've taken to putting potato slices and chamomile teabags, among other things, on them. Also taking iron supplements and anti-allergy meds for it, but still. Hoping they'll develop something really potent for dark circles soon. :(

December 9, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJA

Wow! It's is a must have for me. I'm only 20 and I already have fine lines and dark eyes. Thanks to my work. Also, it's less expensive compared to Skin Food's eye cream which I think cost around 2k+. How many months did yours last?
