How To Find The Best Moisturizer for Oily Skin
It took me years before I learned how to care for my oily skin. As a teen, I thought that frequently washing my face and using astringents would do the trick of banishing the grease. 15-year-old me had a lot of misconceptions about skin care, and I’m so glad that the internet and sites like Project Vanity made learning about proper skin care much easier! Of course, there’s a lot of misinformation online, too, so it’s important to be careful about which sources to trust and avoid the pitfalls of shady skincare hacks.

How to choose a menstrual cup and where to buy it in the Philippines
It’s been three years since I switched to using a menstrual cup, and it has made getting my period so much more bearable. I no longer need to worry about my napkin leaking or paranoid about getting toxic shock syndrome (TSS) from my tampon. Using a cup is so much more comfortable than the other two options since there are no strings or thick paddings to deal with! And it does make me feel better knowing that menstrual cups are a more environment-friendly option for dealing with my monthly period.
New Year, Better You: Four ways to give yourself a makeover in 2020
I don’t know about you, but I have been so eager to move into the new year! 2019 was a tiring and difficult year that culminated in a breakup of a long relationship, and I felt like the start of a new decade would help to bring about a refreshing change. But as anyone who has ever made a New Year resolution knows, changing one’s self is often a slow and gradual process. It’s a little easier when you start with a few small and simple changes, so why not give yourself a makeover?
Rave: The Anastasia Luminous Foundation is the perfect base for healthy skin
I’ve long been a fan of a lot of Anastasia Beverly Hills products, from their Dipbrow Pomade and Powders, to the iconic Modern Renaissance eyeshadow palettes and celestial highlighters. Pure Hollywood, a nude liquid lipstick, was one of my first ever lip purchases back in the day! The brand carries a lot of cosmetics that seem to always be in line with the zeitgeist while maintaining high quality at par with the top brands in the world.
Lubricant for styling? We tried this weird hack for curly hair
A member of the PVC Facebook Group recently raved about a hack that we'd never heard of before. Instead of the usual hair gel, Katrina used water-based lubricant as a styler for her curly hair and got great results! We were definitely intrigued and had to test this out for ourselves.
New Year, Better You: Six ways to care for your mental health
2020 is not just a new year, it’s also the beginning of a new decade! It’s amazing to realize that in the past ten years, topics that were once deemed taboo are now part of regular conversation. One that is particularly important to PV is taking care of our mental health.
We’ve previously tackled issues like coping with depression and anxiety, and we hope to do more related features. But let’s begin with something that concerns everyone: improving your own mental health as a vital part of your self-care

Pretty Secret: Is this under 200-peso brand you see in Watsons junk or gem?
I love going to Watsons, and have a habit of browsing even when I'm not really looking for anything. It's a good way to see what's new and interesting for PV to cover! Recently, a brand called Pretty Secret caught our attention because they have a line of makeup with nothing over P200, and you could find the products in any Watsons store.
Review: MAC’s Starring You Collection is all about that glittery bold look
MAC never fails to release daring Holiday Collections, and the Starring You for Holiday 2019 is no exception. Perfect for standing out with glittery pouts and galaxy eyes, the collection features eye, lip, lash, and cheek products that make you the star. I got to try some seriously majestic pieces which I’m excited to use here and there whenever I want to make an impact.
How I achieved the “incognito K-idol” look for just 500 pesos (and change)
I have been a Kpop fan for more than 10 years now, and I have them to thank for my love of K-beauty as well! Following idols have given me the chance to see the evolution of Korean makeup trends, from the era of thick eyeliners paired with nude lipsticks, to adventurous burgundy eyeshadows, and to the current obsession with more natural, almost bare-faced looks.

Budget Beauty: Five micro-tip eyebrow pencils to try under 400 pesos
A micro-tip brow pencil has always been my weapon of choice when it comes to doing my kilay. It’s easier to draw fine, hair-like strokes with a slim tip so I’m able to achieve the naturally #blessed brow look - just the way I like it!
A good micro-tip pencil to me should meet these three criteria:
This skin care routine can minimize the appearance of pores in just 4 steps
Skin care diet, skip-care, the anti-10 step skin care routine - these beauty buzz words basically all mean the same thing. They’re all about going back to the basics and downsizing your skin care regimen and not compromising the image of minimizing pores. I enjoyed the 10 step skin care routine for a good while but I’ll be the first to admit that I found the rules of layering a bit tedious. Do I really need to spend an hour to slap products on my face, or can I do it under 15 minutes and make time for other things that I enjoy?
Whitening versus Brightening: How the Olay Power Duo gives you the radiance that your skin needs
For many of us, growing up in the Philippines meant growing up believing that white skin is better. If you have fair skin, you were considered maganda, artistahin, and kutis-mayaman. If you were darker-skinned though, what a shame! You would probably told that it’s a pity you were born kayumanggi, and given a number of suggestions on how to whiten skin.

It's okay to be ugly. What's not okay is to give up on yourself.
I suppose it is radical that this should come from a beauty blogger, but in the eleven years that I’ve worked in this industry, I’ve come to realize that it’s completely okay to be ugly. Yes, you heard it. It’s okay to be ugly. It’s absolutely fine that you don’t fit in the mold of what everyone else thinks is beautiful - it’s fine that your skin is a mess, your hair is falling out, you’re fat, or that you’re too dark. So many women who are not considered conventionally beautiful blaze their own trails and find their own way. I mean, you need only look at the achievements of Samin Nostrat, Mindy Kaling, or Naomi Watabe! You can do that too, and you don’t need the permission of being beautiful to get started.
It's Mask O'Clock: The five clay masks that actually work wonders on my sensitive skin
I’m a big winner in the skin care concern lottery: I have sensitive combination skin. This means that my t-zone (forehead and nose) gets very oily, while my u-zone (cheeks and chin) turn dry and flaky. My pores also love forming comedones, making me more prone to getting enlarged pores and pimples. It has been extra challenging to find skin care products that work for my various issues because my skin can get really reactive, flaring up whenever I come near anything it doesn’t like!
Beauty Hacks: Five ways to Angkas-proof your makeup
Can't book a ride or don't want to be stuck in traffic? You might want to consider taking a motorcycle service instead. I started using Angkas about a year ago when I couldn't get a car or a cab after an hour of trying. I got to my destination quickly and safely, and though I wasn't prepared for a bike ride. I now take it regularly to get to work without having to deal with the horrendous Manila traffic or exorbitant fares, so I need to make sure I still look presentable when I arrive at my destination. Apart from spritzing a bit of fragrance, here are five tips for staying fresh and surviving the bike ride:
A thorough review of the Revlon Life-Proof Matte Foundation Stick
It’s not very often that I get to present a really, really good drugstore foundation to you. So I am not going to mince words - the Revlon Life-Proof Matte Foundation Stick (P725) is now a mainstay on my makeup desk! I usually go for Dior, Tom Ford, Fenty, or MAC as you know but this Revlon stick can compete with the big leagues.
What I love most about it is how easy it is to apply. You just swipe as much as you need on your face, buff well with a dense foundation brush (ideally a flat top or kabuki), and you’re done!
