So, the BEST skincare secret I have right now is my mom's favorite drugstore wound ointment

I was a malikot kid growing up, always running around and getting into all sorts of accidents. From scraping my knee, breaking my arm, to getting my head bashed on a wall by an overzealous cousin, I’ve had the kind of childhood that was possible only because we didn’t have Internet at home yet. You’d think my skin would be covered in scars, but I only have a few discreet ones thanks to my mom’s favorite wound cream: Terramycin.

She always had this blue tube in the drawer for me and my brother, and so I’ve taken that habit with me even when I started living on my own. I didn’t honestly think much of it until the pandemic happened. Because restaurants were closed for most of 2020, I have never cooked so much and so regularly in my life! I even learned to bake during that time. I got so many cuts and burns as well that I always have Terramycin in a permanent place of honor on my skincare table.

This is when I “discovered” something I should have noticed a long time ago: when I used Terramycin, my wounds and burn blisters healed much faster and left barely a blemish. If I didn’t use it, a burn blister would simmer on my hand for a week. If I slather it on, it heals in three or four days only and scabs without leaving much of a mark.

Terramycin works because it has antibacterial ingredients (Polymyxin B sulfate 0.71 mg, bacitracin Zn 10 mg, and neomycin sulfate 5 mg) that prevent bacteria from thriving. It’s recommended for “prevention and treatment of infection in minor cuts, scrapes, burns, abrasions, insect bites, pimples, pustules and other skin breaks”.

So I thought…what if I used Terramycin on my popped pimples?

It works ridiculously well! Once a pimple has popped, it’s an open wound, so Terramycin is the correct thing to use. You know how sometimes a popped pimple takes a while to dry? That’s how pimple patches became so popular! And the patches work, but only up to an extent. A wound ointment works better IMHO in healing wounded skin due to the antibacterial nature of it and the ointment format keeps the skin moist for better healing. It also makes for a much cleaner scab that comes right off, leaving only a tiny trace (for my skin anyway).

I apply a dab of Terramycin on a freshly popped pimple once in the morning and once at night. In about three days, it scabs off nicely. That’s how I was able to lessen my blemishes dramatically! The only thing is that it will stay sticky so you can only do this if you don’t plan to wear makeup or rub your face onto anything.

Just wanted to share this very affordable hack. At only P298 from Watsons, I guarantee you won’t regret having Terramycin in your vanity. Leave some for me ha!
