Beauty Roundup: Careline's Color Correcting Powders, Issy's New Lip Lacquer, Urban Decay's Powder in a Can, and Happy Skin's Obsessed Campaign
Local brands are carrying this week's beauty news, and honestly, we love to see it. Careline is making powder interesting again, Issy is chasing the glassy lip trend at a local price, and Happy Skin just declared its deep red Obsessed the shade of the season across practically its entire lineup. Plus one clever launch from abroad: Urban Decay put setting powder in a spray can. Let's get into it.
Careline launches color correcting powders in five shades
Careline is making a case for powder as more than just a setting step. The new Color Correcting Powder (P351) comes in five shades, each with its own job: Translucent softly sets makeup, Green neutralizes redness, Banana brightens and helps neutralize purple and blue tones, Lavender brightens dull, yellow tones, and Peach conceals dark circles and spots.
If you've ever watched a color-correcting tutorial and thought the liquid versions looked like too much commitment, this is the low-stakes way in. Powders are more forgiving to layer, easier to sheer out, and harder to overdo than creams, so you can spot-treat redness on the cheeks or brighten under the eyes without disturbing the base underneath. At this price, you could realistically pick up two or three shades for your specific concerns and still spend less than one mid-range setting powder. A smart, useful launch from a brand that keeps punching above its price point.
Happy Skin is officially Obsessed, and it wants you to be too
Happy Skin launched a campaign today built around a single shade: Obsessed, a deep red the brand is positioning as its key color for the season. And it's an easy sell. Deep reds like this are famously flattering on all skin tones, and this one is a genuine multitasker: wear it full-on for a bold, polished lip, or blot it down to a soft, lived-in stain. Either way, it works as an everyday color, which is exactly what makes a red actually get used instead of sitting prettily in your kikay kit.
The clever part of the campaign is that Obsessed isn't just one product. It runs across Happy Skin's bestselling formulas, so you can pick it in whatever texture you're loyal to: the Shut Up and Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippie (from P299) for classic crayon convenience, the Lip Mallow Plush Matte Lip Tint (P599) for a soft-blurring velvet lip, the Lip Jelly (P499) if you want the shade with a glassy, jelly shine, and for cheeks, the Jelly Blush (from P299) and the Second Skin Melting Cream Blush (from P299) so your blush can match your lip in that monochromatic way that always looks pulled together. Rounding out the red family are the Mallow Pot in Red Velvet (from P449) and the Cloud Flush liquid blush in Red-Eye (P349, marked down from P699).
One shade, one cohesive look, multiple finishes and price points, most of them under P500. It's a smart campaign, and we suspect Obsessed will be sold out in more than one formula by the weekend.
Issy drops a Lip Lacquer with a glassy, lacquered finish
Issy's newest lip launch is the Lip Lacquer (P449), a longwear liquid lip shine that promises the best of both worlds: the impact of a high-pigment liquid lipstick with the reflective, glass-like shine of a gloss. It glides on smoothly, wears with a cushioned feel rather than the heavy, tacky drag some glosses have, and then softens evenly into a subtle stain as the day goes on. So even when the shine eventually fades, you're not left with nothing.
The formula leans on film-forming technology, a flexible layer that helps the color and shine resist smudging and fading, plus an emollient blend to keep lips conditioned and plush through extended wear. No tight, dried-out feeling by mid-afternoon, in theory. It launches in six shades. With glassy, lacquered lips still everywhere internationally (hello, Dior's glow stick era), it's nice to see a local brand deliver the look at a fraction of the price.
Urban Decay wants you to ghost your setting powder
Urban Decay just did something clever with its cult All Nighter franchise: the new All Nighter Ghosting Setting Spray ($34, travel size $18) is a loose setting powder in aerosol form. Instead of the usual liquid mist, it's an alcohol-free micro-powder suspension with corn and tapioca starches plus kaolin clay to soak up oil, promising up to 24 hours of matte, crease-proof, flake-proof wear with an instant blur effect. You shake it, hold it half an arm's length away, and mist it on after foundation, so you get the airbrushed powder finish without the mess of a jar and a fluffy brush (or the dreaded flashback).
The smart part is that it comes in three flexible tints (Light, Medium, and Deep) so there's no white cast on deeper skin tones, a problem traditional translucent powders never quite solved. Between this and Careline's correctors above, powder is clearly having a main character moment this season. No PH release date yet, but it's already up on Sephora and Urban Decay's site if you have a way to order.
And that's it for this week's Beauty Roundup!
