Beauty Gadget Review: Is the Foreo UFO the at home facial upgrade you need?

When I first heard about the Foreo UFO, I thought it was another cleansing device from the brand as we’ve previously featured the Foreo Luna Go and the Foreo Luna 3. Those two got rave reviews so when I found out that the UFO was in fact, not a cleansing device, my interest was piqued. What is this masking device and what is it supposed to do for my skin?

“A transcendent smart mask treatment, UFO combines advanced dermal technologies with exclusive Korean mask formulas for a decadent facial treatment in seconds.” The description read as such and it is posed as a quick alternative to the typical sheet masks which require 15-20minutes on your face. The UFO finishes a treatment in 90 seconds and has several sheet masks to choose from. You get the device, a stand, a USB charging cable, and a sheet mask in the Make My Day variant out of the box.

The Foreo UFO (P16,320 via their Lazada Flagship Store) uses its Hyper-Infusion Technology paired with its signature T-Sonic pulsations to deliver the best results out of every mask. The three options for LED light therapy in red, green, and blue can be activated depending on the mask. There’s also the Cryo-Therapy mode which helps cool your skin and reduce the appearance of pores and puffiness.

To use the Foreo UFO, you must download their app on your smartphone and connect it to the device. Once your device is registered, the app then requires you to scan the barcode of your mask before starting the treatment and this is done every single time. It also guides you throughout the treatment which is nice at first but can get slightly annoying when you’re on your nth mask of the same variety. You secure the sheet mask onto the device by placing it under the ring. And then, the treatment starts.

After 90 seconds, you are given the option to repeat the treatment. I always choose to do so as the first treatment pass feels like it goes by a little too quickly. Also, there is so much essence left in the pack! I have actually taken to doing the treatment thrice – 2x for the face and 1x for the neck. I just squeeze out additional essence onto the sheet mask after every pass.

So far, I have tried three of the sheet mask variants – Make My Day, Call It a Night, and Youth Junkie. Make My Day and Call It a Night are their basic sheet masks priced at P640 (7 masks/box via Sephora PH). While Youth Junkie is part of their Advanced Collection which features mask variants that target different skin needs. Youth Junkie is an Intense Renewal Collagen-Infused Mask priced at P1,240 (6 masks/box via Sephora PH), perfect for anti-aging. I was looking forward to the Cryo-Therapy treatment but sadly, it is not included for these three masks. According to their customer service which you can conveniently chat with through the app, the Cryo-Therapy is activated for the Shimmer Freak and Matte Maniac mask variants only.

This is how my skin looks after the Make My Day mask. My skin feels nourished without being sticky as can be the case with a typical sheet mask application. The redness around my nose was also diminished though my pores still look the same. I still follow up with moisturizer after to seal in the mask as well as provide additional moisture to my normally dry skin. My favorite so far would have to be the Youth Junkie variant as you can really feel and see the Advanced Collection difference. The essence alone feels more concentrated and I can even skip moisturizer after. I would definitely try more of the other masks to find my best fit.

At the end of the day though, is this 16,000-peso device worth your money? If you have the budget for it, then yes, the Foreo UFO is definitely the at home facial upgrade you’d want to indulge in. The need to constantly buy masks will have to be factored into your budget but ultimately, the mask options lead to your perfect custom facial all in the safety of your home. But if you’re new to beauty devices and are on a tighter budget, the more popular Foreo cleansing devices may be a better place to start.
