Where Beauty Meets Business: Beauty + Health & Wellness Manila Celebrates 10 Years
Beauty + Health & Wellness Manila is happening September 17 to 19 at SMX Convention Center, and it's the expo's tenth year. Project Vanity is a media partner this time around, so I wanted to tell you about it properly instead of just posting the flyer.
If you haven't been, BHW is the big trade expo for beauty, health, and wellness in the country. Global-Link MP Events runs it with the Chamber of Cosmetics Industry of the Philippines, and it shares the venue with the Hotel & Foodservice Suppliers Show. Part of the proceeds go to Ayala Foundation.
This year there are over 75 brands, local and international, across about 1,900 square meters. They feature skincare, makeup, salon and spa products, supplements, wellness devices, plus the business side that most of us never see: packaging, sourcing, beauty tech. This is a trade show that’s worth visiting if you’re part of - or want to be a part of - the Philippine beauty industry.
Here's what I like about it. It's open to both the industry and regular visitors, on the same days, on the same floor. If you own a salon or a clinic, or you distribute, or you're trying to start a brand, this is where you go to meet suppliers and see what's coming. If you just like beauty, you can go to try things and buy things and talk to the people who make them. It offers invaluable insight into the workings of the industry, and you’ll come out understanding the business of beauty in a new light.
There's a full program of talks across the three days, and a few I'd make time for. DOST-ITDI has two: one on getting more out of essential oils and their byproducts in cosmeceuticals, and another on cosmetic safety standards and quality testing, which is really about how a product earns your trust before it ever reaches you. PAWA is talking about why certification matters in aesthetics and wellness here, and if you've ever wondered who is actually qualified to do what to your face, that's a good hour to sit in. There's also a session from CCIP on running a beauty business in the digital age, one from Goldwater Capital on sourcing, financing, and expanding, and a talk from PCCI on typography, which sounds niche until you think about how much of a product's price is on the label.
For the rest of us, Coach Abby of Makeup Science Asia Academy is doing a beauty and color theory session, Universal Skin Cosmeceuticals is taking on "unfiltered beauty" and what's left of the trends once the hype wears off, Waters Philippines is talking hydration, and the Philippine Mental Health Association is giving a talk called Healthy Mind, Healthy Body. I'm glad that one's on the program. And I'm giving a talk of my own on the 17th, the opening day. I'll share the details closer to the date, but if you're planning to go, that's the day to come, and do say hello after.
I'm also giving a talk on the 17th, the opening day. I'll share the details closer to the date, but if you're planning to go, that's the day to come. Say hello after, please!
