The five essential pieces of jewelry to start your capsule collection + five extras

I started investing in fine jewelry in my late 20’s. Nothing beats owning something that will last a lifetime. But since fine jewelry does not come cheap, I find it best to choose classic pieces that will not look dated a decade from now. If you are thinking of starting a capsule collection of jewelry to complement your beauty looks, choose pieces that are versatile so you get the most out of them. Here are my five recommendations for the most essential pieces of jewelry!

Most of these pieces are from a local jewelry brand called Nobela Manila, which our editor Liz Lanuzo curates and designs.

Chain necklace with a pendant

A chain necklace with a pendant is the first necklace everyone should own. It adds extra oomph even to the simplest t-shirt and shorts outfit. The great thing about a pendant is that you can choose something that’s special to you, like your initial or your birthstone. Plus, you can also wear the chain by itself when you want to sport a minimalist look.

Stackable dainty ring

We use our digits so much so let’s not forget to adorn them! For your first ring, choose something dainty. You can wear it on its own but you can also stack them with your future rings.

Hoop earrings

While large hoop earrings can be tricky to pull off, small to medium hoops add some fun to your look while remaining a classic. You can also opt for studded hoop earrings for extra sparkle.

String of pearls

From glamorous celebs to heads of state, some of the most iconic women in history wore a string (or more) of pearls on their necks. It’s so versatile that you can wear it for any occasion be it casual, business or formal.

Diamond stud earrings

You can never go wrong with a pair of diamond stud earrings because they are so simple yet eye-catching. It just goes with anything that you can seriously wear them everyday.

Apart from these five essentials, consider these five fun extra pieces for your collection:

Long necklace

A long necklace, whether a chain link, a beaded one or a rope of pearls looks great when paired with a high neckline. Plus, you can layer them with your other necklaces for an on-trend look.

Statement earrings

Even when you own classic earrings, it’s great to have a pair of statement earrings that will just speak for themselves and put your whole look together.

Statement necklace

A bold statement necklace is great for jazzing up a plain-colored outfit. Anytime you feel like your outfit needs a little something to standout, then a statement necklace will do it for you.

A plain bangle

There are so many designs of bangles to choose from, but a plain bangle, whether thin or thick, adds a nice, classy touch to your wrist.

Classic watch

Watches have taken a back seat because we all just use our phones to keep time now, but there’s still something very alluring about a classic-looking watch. It makes you look like you really mean business, whether you wear it alone or layer it with some bracelets.

So there you have my recommendations for five essential pieces and five extras! These pieces are good investments because not only can you use them for a very long time, but you can also pass them down to future generations.
