Cetaphil embarks on a mission for healthy skin

As a beauty enthusiast, I naturally gravitate towards skincare discussions—whether in websites and online platforms (shout out to The Project Vanity Community on Facebook!), at beauty events, or with friends and family. I do appreciate all of these venues, because I learn a lot about skincare from them. The conversation has changed a lot through the years, with many participants becoming *woke* about how to properly care for their skin. At times, I even feel like I’m preaching to the choir!

Even so, I feel like more people should join in on the discussion. Not all people realize that skincare isn’t just about vanity; more than that, it’s about personal health. Enter Cetaphil’s National Healthy Skin Mission. The dermatologist-trusted skincare brand recently partnered with Watsons for activations at select SM Malls nationwide. In an effort to create awareness for the importance of skin health, they built interactive booths, invited celebrity guests, and even raffled off a Bali trip for two!

Hooking people in with fun activities

Surrounding the Cetaphil mall activation in SM Makati were several eye-catching booths. My jaw dropped to the floor when I chanced upon the Cleanser Swap booth, where you could exchange old or empty face washes and toners for a 15mL bottle of their most popular product: the OG Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser! Skincare newbies were also treated to a free and easy Skin Type Test: simply press a forehead or a cheek against the test surface for five seconds and observe the pattern it leaves on the paper. The resulting pattern is matched to guides that help determine whether you have Dry/Sensitive, Oily/Combination, Acne-Prone, or Very Dry/Itchy Skin. Bonus: those who completed the test got an exclusive 10% discount on all Cetaphil products!

The next booth was so eye-catching, even kids found it irresistible. Nestled inside a hanging crib, a cute baby doll is surrounded with Cetaphil Baby products. Visitors got a free souvenir of their Cetaphil experience by getting a printout of their social media post tagged with #CetaphilHealthySkinMission. Those who got printed photos also stand the chance to win a trip for two to Bali!

The Cetaphil team with Sarah Lahbati, Laureen Uy, and Miggy Cruz

Celebrity skincare talks

I was able to catch the 3-day Mission on its last leg at SM Makati. That afternoon, three celebrities were invited onstage to chat about all things skincare. None other than actress Sarah Lahbati, fashion and travel blogger Laureen Uy, and her businessman “Blogger Jowa” Miggy Cruz were there. I found their musings practical and very much relatable!

Sarah shared that she dislikes using a lot of products on her sensitive skin, as her face typically breaks out when she does. She sticks to a simple Cleanse, Moisturize, and Protect daily skincare routine. She believes that “beauty comes from taking care of yourself from within.” A healthy diet, regular exercise, proper rest, and adequate hydration are crucial to getting great skin.

I didn’t think I’d have anything in common with the Sarah Lahbati. That is, until she spoke about being a working mom. The bride-to-be mused, “I think when you become a mother, and when you’re in a committed relationship, plus when you’re working constantly, you want efficiency. You don’t want to waste time. You want products that work. You want to spend more time with your family, and do more important things.” Preach, sister! She then shared that she loved Cetaphil because their products work not just for her sensitive skin, but for her kids’ as well. Her favorite from Cetaphil is their Gentle Skin Cleanser, which she loves massaging into her face for a bit of “me time” in her daily routine.

Individually and as a couple, influencers Laureen Uy and Miggy Cruz are #goals. Laureen’s on-the-go lifestyle made her favor Cetaphil’s Daylong Sunscreen and Gentle Skin Cleansing Cloths, as these products keep her protected and refreshed throughout the day. She reminded everyone to take sun protection seriously, regardless of age. Miggy gratefully recounted how Laureen would constantly remind him to moisturize with Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. I thought it was sweet when they shared that they bond over skincare. Even when they hang out as a couple, they would Netflix and chill, and moisturize! Miggy also reminded everyone that applying skincare isn’t difficult, but you have to be consistent with it. He especially advised forgetful men to keep little bottles of the Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer everywhere as visual reminders to care for your skin. Pro Blogger Jowa tip: Always stock Gentle Skin Cleansing Cloths in the car. “Going home, the girls can’t wait to take off their makeup. They want to relax na,” he shares. What a considerate boyfriend move!

Hoping for a next opportunity

I think it was admirable for Cetaphil to create a venue where people could talk about skincare in a fun, relatable, and non-discriminatory way. I realized that a lot of people do want to learn more about skincare, but may be afraid to appear shallow, feminine, or uninformed. Events like Cetaphil’s National Healthy Skin Mission remind us that it’s okay to care for your skin! You don’t have to spend too much or create complicated routines, either. I’m hoping Cetaphil would have another run, very soon!
