My new HG sunscreen: The Anessa Moisture UV Sunscreen Mild Gel SPF 35

I’m fiercely loyal to my sunscreen so it’s a cosmic shift for me to switch sunscreens, after pretty much using the same thing for eight years. I do try and love other sunscreens of course, but I keep coming back to Biore. You all know this. And yet a couple of months ago this changed.

I’ve actually tried Anessa sunscreen even before it arrived in the Philippines. It’s touted as the #1 sunscreen brand in Japan! I bought their Gold Milk sunscreen in Tokyo before but it didn’t work out for me - for some reason, I develop these fleshy bumps which means that something in it is clogging my pores. That’s fine. I know so many others who are huge fans of this sunscreen, but it just didn’t work out for my skin.

Now a couple of months ago, the Anessa Moisture UV Sunscreen Mild Gel SPF 35 PA+++ (P1,490 in Lazada) was introduced in Manila. This is specifically formulated for babies and kids with sensitive skin so I thought that I’d give it a chance - and omg, I’m so glad I did. I’ve been using it pretty much every day since then!

This is an alcohol-free, colorant-free, and fragrance-free sunscreen that uses chemical and physical filters to protect our skin from the sun. It has a runny texture but not too runny that it drips from fingers as I apply it. It may look like it gives skin a white cast initially, but be patient as it will disappear with a bit of blending. I like that it coats the skin evenly and does not have any oily or thick after-feel.

I also appreciate that it’s moisturizing. My skin is drier these days so I need something that won’t dehydrate my skin and make it look papery! It’s also perfect under makeup but make sure that it’s completely dry first before putting any makeup on. I noticed that if it’s even a bit damp, makeup won’t adhere to skin properly especially on the eyebrows. So do note that! But once it’s dry, it acts like a nice brightening primer that is the perfect base for the rest of your look.

My main complaint is that it has a tendency to stick to hair like eyebrows and the hair line, making things ashy, so blending is key! I also find this expensive for P1,490, but I do get 90 grams for it and it’s a dense formula, so there’s no need to use a ton of product to get sun protection. I use about a finger length each time and to be fair, I think I still have about 25% of product remaining in the tube after two months. That’s actually pretty good.

Overall, I love LOVE the Anessa Moisture UV Sunscreen Mild Gel and will definitely buy once I run out! Actually it’s 18% off right now at Lazada because of 12.12 so I’m going to go ahead and restock. Let me know what you think of this sunscreen!
