Wink Laser & Wax Studio

Remember the epilator I was so excited about last January? I still like it, but I find that waxing is still the best way to remove body hair. The epilator is great to use if I'm in a rush but the downside is I don't get ALL the hair and sometimes, if I'm not careful, I end up doing a half-assed job. Waxing is much more thorough (when done by someone else) and has a better guarantee that I won't get those pesky ingrown hairs.

Now I won't be throwing out my epilator anytime soon but if time permits, waxing remains to be my first choice. :) That said, have you heard about the newest hair removal place in town? It's called Wink Laser & Wax Studio, located in Bonifacio High Street Central on top of Slice.

Now before we go any further I want you to know that I do PR and marketing work for Wink. :) Let's get that out of the way first! Nonetheless, I hope you can trust me to share a review that is honest. Believe me when I say that I won't chuck Project Vanity's credibility out the window just because of a client.

So! Let's get started.

Wink is the baby of Holly Chang, a 24-year old woman who claims to be extremely hairy (and pimply in college - but that's another story!). She's funny, down-to-earth, a true-blue skincare junkie, and yes, all of 24 years on the planet. She decided to start this business because she found out that laser is so cheap in other countries that people would prefer to get it instead of wax. Here it costs an arm and a leg! She wanted to bring affordable laser hair removal treatments to the Philippines and so Wink was born.

Laser gun!

Laser is Wink's specialty, but the salon also offers waxing services. Brazilians, legs, femstache, knuckle hair - if you need them taken out, Wink can take them out. I love that the pricing is quite affordable considering the location and how beautifully appointed the place is. A full leg wax is only P850, a brazilian is P680, while underarms are just P330. Here's the full menu of services for your reference.

The cold and hot wax they use at Wink is imported from the US (it's called Berodin), as well as the pre- and post-care products.

Holly is a hygiene freak, so all sheets and wooden spatulas are used only once per client. The big plastic spatulas for hot wax are never double-dipped; the attendant uses as many as needed and once she's done, the spatulas are soaked in a special solution to remove the wax and sanitize them before they are used again.

I've tried the full leg and underarm wax. The underarm wax is pretty good - the attendant only had to pull the wax twice so it was super quick and painless. At only P330 per service, I seriously never have to shave or even epilate in that area. I observed that the hair grew back in two weeks which is a decent amount of time, I think.

I don't have perfect underarms so sue me! The blue wax or cold wax is used for sensitive areas, while the yellow wax is for limbs

The leg waxing is just alright. The attendant had to go back several times, which stung, but at least she was able to remove the ingrown hair (which was really bothering me at that point, those nasty things!). I hope that the Wink people could remove everything in like a couple of pulls next time.

Hairless legs, these are a couple of my favorite things

Will I come back? Yes! I am always in the area and I love the underarm waxing. For legs, I'll try laser next time. I heard that it just feels warm and not painful at all. It will be my first real laser treatment if ever. ;)

So that's the dish on Wink. You can check the website, follow Wink on Facebook and Twitter, and give 'em a call/email if you need to ask anything.

Wow, the price is good compare to other waxing salon I've tried. I'm thinking to do laser removal but I'm afraid that it can cause damage to my skin like I read on a news paper before about a salon who almost burn the skin leg of the client that cause to be in a 3rd degree burn, but as I see in this probably its much safer than the old style of doing it.. But I think I still need to gain my guts before I tried it hahahaha Well thanks fo rthe info liz.. the salon was so clean in the pics..

That leg pose is sexy haha! I also like epilating but if there's a laser treatment around that's affordable, I'll seriously consider getting one. I'll watch out for your laser post. I'm always curious about how it feels and how long it would really take per session and how effective it is. If ever it would be the first time I'd read about a firsthand laser hair removal from a Filipina who's credible and has my confidence.

Saw this at Sample Room and I've been seriously considering it. The interiors look beautiful!

I'm a little apprehensive of the waxing pains though. I've tried it before, and it HURT! But then again, I wouldn't shy away from it forever. Hehe. I'll be dropping by one of these days. :)

Hi. Im 28 and Ive never tried waxing(!), it never felt relevant to me as im fine with Veet and occasional plucking/shaving. laser, on the other hand seems so tempting especially on the underarm area. I especially enjoyed the cute infographic about laser, because I really had no clue how it really works. This post is definitely bookmarked :)

Booked already an appointment because of your post. Looks like a really nice place with good prices.

Only celebrities have perfect underarms in my humble opinion...or maybe it's Photoshop. The founder is only 24?! Wow~!

I agree about the epilator. I use the same model you're using. I love it for my underarms (quick and easy), but it mostly cuts the hair on my legs instead of pulling them from the roots. Oh well. At least I only have to epilate my legs once a week instead of having to shave them every two days.

I'm curious about the laser! I've been wanting to permanently get rid of my ua hair but I'm a bit worried of the burning. It says here that the device itself has a "chill tip", it seems promising (and it's affordable too!). They have a promo for laser virgins, girls! 1k for ua and 1500 for Brazilian.

Love the interiors! So avant garde and - clean! I hate dirty waxing salons, its so disgusting to find hairs of others that went before you. And I feel double dipping can spread nasty skin disease. I got a gc from sample room but have yet to try it. Your post will encourage me to brave the traffic and go all the way to BGC.

I'm such a Wink believer like you Liz! The quality of wax used is really superb plus, the hygienic way of doing everything from laser to wax hair removal is worth every single centavo! ^_^ As a plus, no pain at all! ^_^ And oh, they also have a package for waxing services as well! ^_^ Had my full arms and legs waxed 2 weeks ago for only Php. 1,330! ^_^

I tried cold wax hair removal at Lay Bare before and boy was it painful! And the hairs were not completely removed from the roots, may mga nagbreak. Wink's services are more expensive pero they look reliable. Will try this one day.

@Khristine Do you mean Wink has a promo? Till when? Can u share the link? Thanks.

two thumbs up for wink! :) I bought 3 vouchers from dealgrocer for underarm waxing. Their place is really clean and the rooms are really spacious. I really felt that the place was so private, unlike other waxing salons. Neat freaks need not worry about other people's hair all over the place. I am very OC when it comes to that, so I was really relieved that the place is spanking clean! The service was quite alright, nothing spectacular, just regular waxing, but their staff are really nice and would make you feel comfy. :) another thing, my bf usually gets bored while waiting for me but he didn't complain about wink at all. He even told me that I should ditch my usual waxing salon. :)) They have free wifi, that's why. Plus they lent him a tablet while waiting for me so he could browse the net. :D

@ManilaJen It says so on your first session :)

this is cool, but i'm lucky I dont need to have waxing salon cause I'mnot that hairy type.;)

I'm not yet sold with the laser hair removal of Wink but I am quite amaze with the interior!

I inquired last week about the 1,000 price for the first session and was a bit turned off when I was told I'm basically paying 10,000 less 10% should I get 4 sessions. This, in my computation would be 2,250 per session, which is not cheap at all.

Isn't soprano accord the same one that skin station has that they are offering at a cheaper price? I've also read that the result is like IPL. I have done several sessions already using lightsheer duet, I was told by my derma that this accord will not substantially remove the remaining thin hairs that I have left. Can you ask the owner about this?

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMargaux

Do they have some sort of package available for underarm laser hair removal? I've been looking for the cheapest prices for that for quite some time now. :) Thanks!
