What went down at the Digital Traincase x Jigs Mayuga Personal Makeup Workshop
A month or so ago Sol of Digital Traincase invited me to her first-ever event: a personal makeup workshop with THE Jigs Mayuga! As you know Jigs is one of the country's premier makeup artists, working with no less than the most sought-after celebrities, brands, and magazines. To be part of his personal makeup class is a great opportunity to learn from the master!
Did you know that Jigs used to work as an airline attendant? Unfortunately, he was laid off when the airline experienced difficulties at that time. Instead of feeling sorry for himself though, Jigs took it as a sign to finally pursue the thing he loved the most: makeup artistry.
So, he took his savings and invested the money on a cosmetology course at the Center for Aesthetic Studies in Makati. He eventually got hired by L'Oreal to manage a Shu Uemura counter in 2005, and then a year or so later got promoted as Chief Makeup Artist for L'Oreal Paris. How's that for turning your lemons into lemonade?
Today, Jigs is a sponsored MAC artist and a Pond's ambassador. It's really inspiring how he was able to pursue his dreams and finding success in such a short amount of time. :)
Back to the workshop - Jigs discussed makeup theory and then proceeded to demonstrate a day to night look on his model. Here are some of the interesting things I learned from him that day:
- Orange is the best color corrector for undereyes. It seems like a weird shade at first, but correctors aren't meant to be used alone; they have to be covered up by another concealer that matches the skin. Use green to conceal redness!
- Only conceal where needed, and then blend those heavy concealers with a wet Beauty Blender. Press the BB sponge down and out to feather the edges of concealer.
- A steel palette is indispensable for mixing and swatching products! I'm going to get one before the year ends. Yes, even if I'm not a makeup artist. My hands look like a mess after I apply makeup.

This is srs business!
The workshop took place in Studio SnR in Ortigas. It's one of the few places in the metro that caters specifically to workshops and private makeup sessions
Loved the Bronuts cronuts! My fave is the one with cream cheese and nuts. <3 So yummy. Visit Bronuts in Rockwell!
So there you go. I hear that Digital Traincase will have another workship with a celebrity MUA again soon - I can't wait! It's always great to learn techniques from different people. No one makeup artist does the same face the same way. ;) Really looking forward to the next DTC event!
