Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter

What's your ideal lipstick like? For me, it has the comfortable texture of a lip balm but with the opacity of normal lipsticks. I've always wondered why companies don't make a product like this more often. Perhaps it is too expensive? Not enough demand? In any case Revlon took it upon themselves to make a kickass lip product called the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter (P525).

There are serious raves about these lipsticks online, and I can see why!

What I love about the product

  • As the name promises, it does glide on like butter and feels moisturizing on the lips. It doesn't feel waxy or thick at all. Girls who can't stand lipstick will love this!
  • Colors are gorgeous and trendy, with great color payoff. It feels like balm but doesn't look like one when you have it on.
  • The glossy finish makes lips look instantly plumper, with less lines.
  • Has a faint vanilla scent that fades away quickly.
  • Packaging looks classy and expensive. Like the original Colorburst Lipsticks, the Lip Butters come in a rectangular tube that has a fishnet design on the cap. The difference is that the caps come in the color of the lipstick inside, which makes them easier to sort.

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick packaging for reference

Pink Truffle is one of the best MLBB (my lips but better) shades I've come across to date. It looks flattering on me and goes with most looks.

Peach Parfait is a glossy peach with gold glitters. The shimmer can look quite obvious but personally I don't mind so much.

Raspberry Pie looks like a fuchsia to me, not so much berry-ish

Lollipop is a deep pink that's a makes a whopper of a statement. I love it!

What I don't like

  • For P525, you only get 2.55 grams of product. That's only 2/3s of the normal lipstick amount (which is 3.5 grams), so it comes off being more expensive than it initially looks.
  • I'm just nitpicking minor details here: the cap can be annoying to open as it covers most of the tube. You really have to grasp the black part with the Revlon logo by the small pads of your fingers to get the cap off!
  • I wish the lipstick shape were smaller. I find it a challenge to apply the color straight from the tube as I keep going beyond the lines.

Peach Parfait, Pink Truffle, Raspberry Pie, Lollipop

Neutral

  • Staying power is ok. I give it three hours before it starts feeling dry. To the credit of the formula, it doesn't flake!

Recommendations

The Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter is a damn good product, all things considered. It feels great on the lips and somehow enhances them once you have the product on. Now, if you've always been a lip balm/tint kind of girl because you hate the waxy texture of lipsticks, then there's now no reason to try a lip balm/ lipstick hybrid like these Lip Butters.

Verdict

I love it! I've been using them since I got them, and you can bet that Pink Truffle and Lollipop will stay put in my permanent kit. :D

Have you already gotten your own Lip Butter yet? How do you like it?

Hi Liz,

Yay! The review is finally here, I was looking forward to this ever since you made your first post about Revlon lip butters. My problem with lipsticks is that they tend to dry up my lips or tend to fade away real fast, with this lip butter I'm pretty sure my moisturizing woes are addressed, I just wish the staying power is good as well.

I like the Raspberry Pie among all but honestly I was looking forward to seeing a vamp red lipstick. Oh well, maybe in another product line. :)

I have no complaints about the formula, the color selection, and the finish. I lean more towards lip butters that have color to them, so pigmentation-wise, they're also really nice :) I have them in Candy Apple (a warm orange-y red) and Berry Smoothie (a light mauve-y pink with a bit of purple).

However, the price increase for these lip butters is quite high, if they retail in the US for an average of $6, then the price here is marked-up to more than 50% with a Php525 price tag :( You could have gotten 4 of these while paying the same price.

Another sad thing: My Berry Smoothie Lip Butter's packaging busted D: The tube refuses to twist properly :(

I love my Berry Smoothie! Cupcake is a very pretty pink.
I agree with Purplechef that it's very drying on the lips after a while. I make sure that my lips are well exfoliated and moisturized before applying this product.
Some of their colours are not very pigmented like Creme Brulee and Sugar Frosting. I'd skip those.
Other than that...this is a thumbs up for me too!

I haven't got one, uhm well if the San-San Long Wearing Lipsheer count, it has some butter smell on it:) Anyway, I agree that this is quite expensive but I think with your review, it's worth the try. Btw, have you tried reviewing lipsticks from Givenchy? I've got one from my cousin and I really like it! It's the Rouge Flamboyant Lipstick! :)

I love this product, but it's so damn expensive here. You can get in in the US for half the price...$7.50 each, plus 50% off on the second tube. So that's just roughly P500.00 for two tubes already.

Revlon mark-up is so high in the Philippines it's not funny. If Rustan's can get price Stila very low, why can't these drugstrore makeup brands do the same?

Nice but I am not really a lipstick person so I'm not sure if I want to shell out 5P25 for this. But how about the Revlon Chubby Sticks? Have you tried them? Which is better you think?

I immediately bought a tube of Peach Parfait after you gave a sneak peek of it. Haha! I love it! Nice to see that Pink Truffle looks nice too. I have sort of pigmented lips so the Peach Parfait looks more of a gloss than a lipstick, however for some reason, it turns into a pretty peachy color after an hour or so.

I'll try the other shades! People have also been talking about Creme Brulee. I wonder if it's as good a nude as some people say it is. XD

I have the Peach Parfait one as well. I love it! It's very moisturizing. It is now residing permanently in my makeup bag :) I might buy the one in Lollipop. Looks really pretty!

Love this Liz! Got myself berry smoothie, pink truffle, strawberry shortcake, peach parfait, and sugar plum. BOGO 1/2 + $ off can do that to a girl on vacation :) When will we ever have all these promos for these brands?!
