Review: The new 2020 formulation of the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum

When Project Vanity ‘s editor-in-chief told me she was sending over a bottle of the new Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex Serum (P2,850/20ml | P4,350/30ml | P6,200/50ml at Lazada), I had to check if it was my birthday. It wasn’t but, boy, did it feel like it! This famed fountain of youth is a staple on vanity tables the world over for 38 years. It’s the ultimate in anti-aging simply because it works. As its name says, Advanced Night Repair, or ANR, repairs the skin overnight. Women have been claiming to wake up to skin that looks more even and radiant, their fine lines and wrinkles smoothened out.

I’ve never tried ANR. To be honest, it’s a bit pricey for working-mom me. When I turned 40, however, I put it on my bucket list of products to try. It isn’t even because I wanted to hide my age. Not at all. I wanted my face to reflect how glorious it is to be living the dream - happy marriage, wonderful kids, great career - not the fact that it takes hard work to make dreams come true. ANR seems to hold that promise: It’s an unassuming little brown bottle but it works really hard to deliver. Sounds just like me!

Today, the new ANR just launched Philippines through Lazada. Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex is the result of 7 years of research into epigenetics. Estée Lauder scientists claim to have discovered specific micro signaling molecules, which are essential to repair skin damage, protect skin from further environmental damage, renew skin cells, and boost natural collagen. They fortified the original ANR formula with the new and exclusive Chronolux Power Signal Technology that activates those miracle-making micro signaling molecules.

What’s new?

Comparing the list of ingredients of the new formula with the previous one and I saw that while it still looks like the same ingredients, the ones in the Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex are listed in a slightly different order. This means the amounts have been tweaked.

There are three new ingredients in the new ANR. First is the adansonia digitata seed extract. Estée Lauder says this is the one that boosts the micro signaling molecule that does all the magic, especially the collagen-boosting power. Fun fact: This is the first time ANR has claimed it can boost the production of collagen. That means not just smooth and clear skin, it also means firmer skin!

The second new ingredient is a probiotics mix. Korean skincare fans like me are familiar with probiotics. These keep the natural environment of the skin surface healthy. So it’s nice to see an Asian skincare innovation in a Western skincare classic.

The third new ingredient is sodium RNA, or the sodium salt of ribonucleic acid. This helps the body create proteins, which are the building blocks of life. Every cell in our body contains protein. As an ingredient in the Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex, it promises to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and may even prevent sagging.

My verdict

I only had a weekend to use the new ANR Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex before I had to submit this review. That meant three applications. I seriously doubted I’d see any changes. But after just one use, I woke up to skin that looked like I had a good night’s sleep, which was shocking since I slept at 3 AM. My skin didn’t look 10 years younger, no, but it did look like I woke up with blurring foundation on.

The third morning came and my skin felt extra soft and smooth. My skin condition wasn’t that bad to begin with, but I was having little breakouts around my mouth (possibly caused by my face mask) and the skin around my brows and nose was flaking. But that third morning showed my breakouts had calmed down and my flaky skin was gone.

Did that excite me? Yes! That was just THREE DAYS of use!

The Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex with Chronolux Power Signal Technology promises a visibly brighter complexion, 72-hour hydration, 8-hour antioxidant protection, and strengthening of the skin barrier. I can attest to the visible brightening and hydrating effects. With regular use, I should expect to see my pores disappear, the fine lines around my eyes and mouth reduced, a marked improvement in my skin texture, and skin that’s soft yet firm. I can’t wait to see what I’ll look like next month!

The new Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex Serum is out in Lazada today, and in counters nationwide on August 24.
