Happy 17th birthday, Mary Kay!

One of our favorite direct selling beauty brands, Mary Kay, celebrates its 17th year in the Philippines! It seems like only yesterday when I first started seeing catalogs of the brand. And now, the brand is stronger than ever with its crowd favorites and new products as well!

Mary Kay started out as a modest little store in 1963 in Dallas, Texas, USA. Today, it is available in 35 markets worldwide, but most of its products are still made in Dallas until now. Mary Kay believes that good makeup starts with good skincare, that’s why the brand has a wide variety of skincare for our individual needs.

Their classic skincare line is the famous Timewise, an anti-aging line with specific products for either normal to dry skin or combination to oily skin. More recently, they’ve expanded their lines to include Botanical Effects, for younger skin and melaCEP, their whitening line with products made in Korea.

What excited me the most, however, is Clear Proof, their newest line for acne-prone skin. The line is composed of a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and spot solution. I'm particularly interested in the Deep Cleansing Charcoal Mask (P899) because as someone with very oily skin, I need clay masks to help deep clean my pores. This one has peppermint, which I am partial to because I like the cooling sensation on my skin. They also have the PV favorite Skinvigorate Cleansing Brush, which at P2,390 is quite affordable for a sonic cleansing brush.

Moving on to makeup, did you know that Mary Kay has a magnetic refill system? You can buy an empty compact for as low as P595 and fill it with the products you desire - face powder, crème-to-powder foundation, blush, bronzer or eyeshadow! You can also purchase compacts with your desired product already (which is cheaper than buying the pieces separately), and then when you’ve emptied it, you can then customize the compact to your heart’s content. Pretty nifty! Other products to check out include their CC Cream (P825), Gel Matte lipsticks (P700), as well eyeliners and eyebrow products for as low as P299. They are also releasing a new line of gel shine lipsticks this August so keep your eyes peeled!

Mary Kay also has fragrances that won’t break the bank! Upbeat (P949) is a fruity, patchouli scent for the young crowd. Belara (P1,360) is a fruity, floral scent that is great for everyday, while Forever Diamonds (P1,199) is ideal for special occasions. They also have some skincare and fragrances for men. I liked MK High Intensity Ocean (P1,249) a fresh, aquatic scent that is so subtle that women can actually rock it, too.

Mary Kay has a lot of products to check out and explore. We’re looking forward to more products and many more years. Happy 17th birthday, Mary Kay!
