The Snaps Report: Sick and spoiled

I told myself that I won't be one of those people who spoil their dogs to no end. I always thought that the money and time for that can go to better indulgences (like shoes). But really, how can you not spoil a dog like Snaps? He is sweet, friendly, and usually well-behaved.

Yes, that is the newly-groomed, newly-vaccinated, and rather sick Snaps. He has a bacterial disease at the moment (major sad face), but he is already on medication and we hope that he will get through it safely soon. According to the vets, he probably got it from the water in Tiendesitas. They mentioned that they had a confined dog patient recently who has the same malady - like Snaps, the dog was also bought from Tiendesitas.

So let this serve as a warning: as soon as you get your dog, get him vaccinated and tested for common diseases like this. (The name of the disease escapes me at the moment). Check his stool, too. It should be firm and formed, not mushy.

Anyway, we went to Dogs and the City in Burgos Circle, The Fort to have him groomed as well as to shop for some essentials. Snaps looks gwapo - the people there were friendly and gave him a nice cut - but he went home with a wound on his hind paw. :/ Granted, he was extremely wriggly during the grooming process that two guys were having trouble holding him down, but I'd like to explore other options next time. Friends on Twitter recommended Purple Groom in Tiendesitas and Pooch Park in Ortigas.

While I wasn't happy with Dogs and the City's grooming services, I do like the stuff they have there. We're also frequently in Burgos Circle so it's convenient for us to buy Snaps' things in that store.

Some essentials:

Body harness - simply more humane than a normal leash around the neck

Hair stuff - smoothing lotion for a shiny, less tangled coat, hand brush, wire brush to detangle. Poms have fine and long hair so tangles are a constant enemy.

Training pads - has an attractant that should encourage Snaps to pee there, plus the pads absorb the pee. Potty training him is proving to be a challenge. Any tips for those living in a condo?

Liver treat, chew toys. We bought Snaps a couple of Latex toys but he didn't seem to enjoy them as much as fabric toys.

So that's my update on Snaps. Right now he is sleeping. We were worried for a while because he started barfing after he got home, but the vet assured us that it is probably just indigestion. We hope she's right!

Btw, if you need vet services, try Beterinaryo Sa Fort. It's in Burgos Circle. I like it there because the people are warm and great with animals. I can see that they love what they do. They look like people I can trust. Besides, when I texted them about Snaps barfing, they promptly replied! I wasn't expecting to hear from them since it was 10pm on a Friday night. Talk about excellent service! I love them.
