How to Shrink your pores, permanently

Everybody has pores, but some have them bigger than others. Genetics play a major role in determining the size of your pores but comedones, sun damage, and aging can make exaggerate their appearance. Most of the time, we can rely on skin care to help unclog them and makeup products like primers to blur and refine their look. But what about ways to make them smaller forever? That's where clinical treatments come in.

Thanks to advancements in beauty technology, we now have a lot of options to choose from. Skin treatments can require a bit of financial investment so before splurging, read on to know what your options are!

Laser Treatments

Laser machines send off beams of light that penetrate into the deeper layers of our skin. They trigger the remodeling and formation of new collagen, which replenish what was lost due to aging and sun exposure. The boost in collagen makes the skin smoother and plumper, and pores also become more refined.

Renew from Facial Care Center uses a fractional laser resurfacing machine. The laser energy it sends is split to create thousands of "micro injuries" on the skin. Now, don't let that scare you: only a small portion of the skin’s surface is treated at a time, and the undamaged tissue surrounding the injuries create new collagen bundles in response to injuries. As a result, your skin's capacity to heal and regenerate itself is increased. The number of sessions needed will depend on your skin’s condition but you can already see results after about three to four sessions.

Revlite is a popular laser treatment for correcting skin pigmentation and discoloration. A laser pulse is applied to dissolve pigments and stimulate new collagen production. It advances collagen growth, which decreases pore size and reduces fine lines and wrinkles, too. Unlike the fractional laser resurfacing, Revlite only works on skin imperfections and doesn’t affect the normal areas so there's no downtime after the procedure. Results depend on your skin’s condition, and the average sessions needed range from six to 12. Some people even claim that they can already see results in their first session! This is available in almost all leading facial and dermatological centers like Facial Care Centre.

Radio Frequency Treatments

When applied to the body, radio frequency energy conducts a current which causes heat to be produced. This can then be used to cut or coagulate tissues, which tighten and improve the underlying tissue structure.

Facial Care Centre offers Thermage, an anti-aging treatment to resolve sagging skin. Because it tightens the tissues, the pores that were exaggerated by the sagging skin are minimized as well. You can complement this treatment with Refirme, which is also a radio frequency treatment at Facial Care. It does the same thing with Thermage but only penetrates the upper layer of the skin. You only need to get this treatment every six months or even once a year, and the effects continue to improve over time.

Chemical Peels

Exfoliation is a good and necessary part of any routine, and a chemical peel uses a solution to give a more intense exfoliating experience and peel off the upper layer of the skin. The newly revealed skin will be smoother and have fewer imperfections. Chemical peels are often cheaper compared to the other treatments.

Facial Care Center's Diamond Ultra Peel uses a combination of mechanical microdermabrasion (using real diamonds) and application of chemicals that exfoliate, lighten, and rejuvenate the skin. The procedure is also done weekly or repeated once there is no more peeling of the skin, as the peeling may last from three to ten days depending on your skin’s sensitivity. Once the dead skin has completely peeled off, the new skin will look vibrant and glowing!

Though they use different methods, these treatments essentially all focus on creating long-term skin improvements that work to decrease your pore size. Since everyone’s skin is different, results may vary even with the same treatment so consulting a dermatologist is still a must to figure out which treatment will work best and most quickly for your skin.

While these treatments can permanently decrease your pore size, they can become enlarged again if you have bad skincare habits. For maintenance and even to avoid adding to your large pore problems, make sure to avoid products that can potentially clog pores. You should also avoid drying and irritating ingredients because these stimulate your pores to produce more oil. Using BHA exfoliants like salicylic acid can help clear up clogged pores while taking antioxidants like vitamin C and E can improve the renewal of your skin.

Have you tried any of these treatments before? Which one would you want to try?
