The quarantine beauty trends that help keep us sane and entertained

Quarantine may have us all locked indoors but that doesn’t mean beauty’s dead and gone. In fact, being locked up at home with no access to salons and beauty clinics have given birth to interesting new looks. And who says we’re hiding away? With social media as our platform, we can show off our quarantine-created looks!

Queer Eye’s resident grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness warned, “Don’t try new lewks during quarentine!” Yes, let’s all notice he spelled quarantine wrong and also let his his well-intentioned advice go unheeded. “Quarentine lewks” are really the most interesting beauty trend these days. Faced with the prospect of staying indoors for an undetermined length of time, men and women the world over are finally daring to do what they always wanted to do with their hair.

Just watch all the Brad Mondo videos. The hairstylist reacts with horror, fascination, and love at everyone’s attempts to change their hair dramatically. From doing their own balayage to shaving off all their locks (because of a dye job gone wrong, I bet!), people are boldly experimenting with their looks.

I think it’s fantastic! Celebrities are also on the trend. Because they can mess up their hair (no shooting schedules till who knows when!), we’re seeing fabulously different looks from usually glammed up stars. Here are a few beauty trends emerging this quarantine:

Brightly-colored hair

So fun to go wild with hair color, guys! I’m getting tons of inspo from Hilary Duff who tried aqua blue and Sarah Michelle Gellar who went bubblegum pink. "Well, because we're still in quarantine,” the vampire slayer said. “I had to think of a new and creative way to embarrass my children: quaran-color!”

Gorgeous eye makeup

Because of the mask culture, bushy brows and dramatic eyes are definitely the beauty trends that are emerging. So expect eyeshadow art, graphic eyeliner, and bold shadow colors to pop up everywhere.

Super skincare

There’s no need for makeup when you’re just at home so might as well make your skin perfect. With so much time on our hands, quarantine is our chance to let our skin soak up all those masks and serums, give ourselves a relaxing face massage using gua-sha, and finally checking out those fancy gadgets like LED light facials and microcurrents.

DIY beauty

Salons are inaccessible so we’ll need to learn how to give ourselves our own facials, mani-pedi, nail art, foot spas, hair spas, and hair removal. Good luck!

Extreme hair styles

Speaking of DIY, extreme hairstyles might become more common the longer this quarantine drags out. I’ve seen my girlfriends dye their hair unicorn colors and shave their heads! Miley Cyrus gave herself an awful haircut but, typical Miley, she made fun of her new look. ”Lucky for me I’m not going to be seeing anyone,” she joked. “They keep pushing this quarantine date back further and further!”

It’s just hair! As Armie Hammer said after he shaved off most of his hair for a curly mohawk, “I’m fine.” Yep, no matter what we do with our nails or hair or makeup while on lockdown, we’ll be fine. Just remember to stay home, stay safe, and have fun with your look. Do it! This is THE time to go crazy!
