Get ultra strong skin this 2020 with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizers

Kiehl’s is one of those skincare brands that my skin just seems to love. I’ve tried a few of their cult favorite serums (Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate) as well as some then new releases (Super Multi-Corrective Cream), and my experience has been good thus far. Sam also did the Kiehl’s Let Us Change Your Skin Challenge with quite satisfactory results. The brand has been around since 1851, after all, and has many fans worldwide!

Kiehl’s offers a wide range of products to treat different skin types, but their number 1 best-seller is actually the Ultra Facial Moisturizer. Compared to their other moisturizers, this formula seems pretty basic but it comes in two variants that are both well-loved. The OG Ultra Facial Cream is a worldwide favorite, while the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream is the top product here in the Philippines. The latter is suitable for normal to oily skin types, and is touted to be lightweight and cooling as it provides “24-hours of shine-free hydration”. And yes, oily skin needs moisturizer!

Another thing I like about Kiehl’s is the free skincare consultations they offer at their stores, and they give you samples to try at home as well. They are not a budget skincare brand so this customer service is much appreciated! I recently found out that my skincare routine needed some updating when I visited their pop-up at Glorietta, and I went home with several samples of their recommendations.

I was pretty excited to finally try out the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream (P1,850 for 50ml). It has won “over 70 international beauty awards”, and Kiehl’s even sponsored a Greenland glaciers trip in 2005 to show that the Ultra Facial Cream can withstand extreme temperatures and provide moisturization for 24 hours!

I haven’t been exposed to such extreme temperatures but my skin has been feeling extra dry lately so I welcomed the moisturizer into my stash. The cream version is for normal to dry skin, and it is now formulated “without carbamindes, T.E.A. and parabens” as they found these ingredients to be sensitizing to some users. The original moisturizer was developed in the early 1970s, so this was a welcome update.

The Ultra Facial Cream comes in a white plastic jar, available in several sizes. They have 28ml (P995 at P35.54/ml), 50ml (P1850 at P37/ml), and 125ml (P3600 at P28.8/ml). Based on per ml pricing, you can get the 28ml if you want to try out the moisturizer for an extended period first, then get the 125ml for long-term as it is the most cost-effective.

I usually scoop a generous amount of moisturizer for my face, but I don’t need to use as much with the Ultra Facial Cream. It’s so moisturizing that even a small amount in the above photo is enough for my entire face. As per Kiehl’s promise, it feels lightweight yet effective. I can use it on its own without any additional serums, and it can keep my face moisturized all day. At night, I like putting on an extra layer because we sleep in an airconditioned room and I like feeling my moisturizer on my face. I add just 2 to 3 drops of the Midnight Recovery Concentrate so my face doesn’t feel too greasy.

I tested out the efficacy of the moisturizer via the MiLi moisture meter, and it did register an increase in moisture. Overall, I’m quite happy with the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream especially with this month’s cool weather. It does not leave a greasy look on the face, and I like how it wears under makeup. Most days, I just use concealer and skip powdering to keep that healthy-looking glow! I’m liking the original formula but I think I’ll check out the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream in the coming summer months.

Have you tried the Ultra Facial Cream or the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream? How do you find Kiehl’s products in general?
