Celebrity hairstylist Renz Pangilinan on the top three looks you can do at home for the holidays

This story is brought to you by Pantene

How are you celebrating the holiday season? The years before meant lots of big parties and reunions, but this year will be considerably different because of the pandemic. Safety is naturally the most important thing. Still, that doesn’t mean that we throw all celebrations out of the window. Zoom parties or parties with your own closed bubble are great ways to share love and cheer to everyone in your life. And you know what that means - it’s the best excuse for glamming up!

That’s why we asked celebrity hairstylist Renz Pangilinan for hair looks that we can do at home for the holidays. Some of Renz’s clients are Pia Wurtzbach, Heart Evangelista, and Kylie Versoza, and he’s here to serve us some inspo and tips!

Ever wondered what makes Kylie Versoza’s signature straight hair so special? It’s straight, yes, but it also has a lot of volume despite it being so sleek. A bit of work goes into it, according to Renz! He says, “The trick to volumized and glossy straight hair is this: First you blow dry as usual, then flat iron the hair slowly, followed by a comb. Its important to go slow for the maximum shine.” We think that’s a great tip - the comb should be able to break up the “ironed” look, and create more body.

Renz adds, “After ironing, blow dry the top of the hair up again for more volume. Finish the look with some shine spray and hairspray.” This is key to making sure that the hair does’t lie flat on the scalp, and stays silky and fluffed as the day wears on!

This heart-stopping ponytail on Ivana Alawi will work for anyone, we think. Renz says, “This sassy ponytail is made by sectioning the “bangs” part out of the way. You can now do your high ponytail!” In other words, you first need to part your bangs, then grab the rest of your hair up to tie in a pony tail. You can wrap a section of hair at the base to hide the elastic. Secure it with a pin.

To make the look truly special, Renz adds, “Curl the ends of the ponytail for that added flare! Lastly, comb your bangs forward then to the side, for that side swept look. Pin it in place to the back and you’re done!” The bangs need to be sleek and full, while the ponytail has to have that “landi” at the ends. This is such a great look if you’ve been growing your hair out and your bangs are in that awkward phase! With some styling, you can get a really fabulous finished look no matter the hair length.

Finally, here’s something that would even be worthy of a bridal look. Renz did this stunning hair look on Elisse Josonn, who wore a vintage dress worthy of a screen siren. Renz says, “This red carpet staple is a bit tricky, but the easiest way to do this is to curl your hair towards your face instead of the usual, which is away from the face.” You’ll need a wide-barelled iron for this, or a big round brush if you only have a hair blower on hand.

But here’s the trick. Renz shares, “[When you’re done curling"], spray your brush with some hairspray. Then, brush your hair through, guiding the waves as you brush.” We think that’s genius! The waves will loosen up, while at the same time holding its shape. As a final touch, Renz recommends, “Clip the other side for that old Hollywood vibe!” Go for something bejeweled and sparkly to really accentuate the look.

If you enjoyed these looks and plan to do them, don’t forget to give your hair some extra TLC. Too much heat styling can cause damage and split ends over time! Using products may also dry up our hair and make it brittle.

Do check out Pantene’s new and improved line for hair that needs to recover from styling and treatments called the Pantene Long Hair Solutions Total Damage Care Shampoo (starts at P109/150 ml) and Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Total Damage Care Daily Serum Conditioner (starts at P149/150 ml). Both products feature Japanese rice oil essence, (with up to 50X anti-damage benefit!) to  properly moisturize and nourish hair to prevent hair damage.  This means your hair recovers and becomes stronger  so hair grows out more beautifully! We did a review here.

Pantene is available in leading supermarkets and department stores. It is also available online on Shopee and Lazada.
