Finally in the PH: Aveeno Active Naturals for sensitive skin

While my oily-skinned friends say that they envy how I don’t need to blot every few hours, having dry skin has its own challenges. I can’t skip applying lotion even if I’m in a rush to leave home because I get unsightly scales on my legs and white marks on my arms. Keeping a hand cream in my purse and applying it after every wash is a must, otherwise they dry out and feel too sensitive. I actually considered wearing gloves at one point just to prevent that uncomfortable feeling! So imagine how happy I was to learn that Aveeno Active Naturals, one of the most trusted skincare brands in the US, is finally in town. No more waiting for that balikbayan box or asking relatives and friends to bring Aveeno as pasalubong. The brand endorsed by Jennifer Aniston is here, and I’m excited to enjoy #naturallybeautiful skin with their help.

That being said, did you know that many Filipinos suffer from Atopic Dermatitis (AD)? It’s actually one of the top 10 skin diseases in our country. At the Aveeno launch, Dr. Maria Victoria Dizon explained that FIlipino AD sufferers are often faced with a dilemma when it comes to managing their condition with natural treatments. Neem is deemed too toxic, papaya can cause allergic reaction, calamansi and lemon can damage skin, and malunggay and guyabano lack clinical studies. AD can be a painful condition so experimenting with home remedies is not recommended.

Thankfully, Aveeno, a cult skincare brand that's been around for more than seventy years, is now easily available to us Filipinios. Their products feature Colloidal Oats, an age-old solution to dry, malnourished skin. They are "nature's moisturizer" as they help improve and maintain the skin's barrier function, contain antioxidants, and cleanse gently.

After the product introduction, Aveeno unveiled their three brand ambassadors: Jaymie Pizzaro, Nikki Gil-Albert, and Christine Jacob-Sandejas. These strong women all shared how their skin tells their tale and how proud they are of their journey as a mother, artist, and athlete.

Jaymie is all about leading a healthy and active lifestyle. Her holistic approach has enabled her to feel confident in her skin, even when she got injured while training for her second Ironman. She looks at her battle scars with pride as they remind her of her strength. Christine shared that if it’s good for you in the inside then it’s good for you on the outside. Being a mother of five and an athlete, her skin has been through a lot. But she has been an Aveeno user for many years, hoarding a stash whenever she went abroad, and so she looks fresh and glowing at 49.

Nikki recounted how difficult it was to be in showbiz and dealing with dry skin. But what got her through is going back to basics and being picky with what she put on her skin. With Aveeno, she feels secure in knowing that their products are good for her skin and won’t expose her to harmful chemicals.

Aveeno launched two variants that address all our skin needs. The duo of Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Lotion (P649.75 for 354 ml) and Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Body Wash (P459.75 for for 354 ml) will help your dry skin through daily nourishing. Both contain a Colloidal Oatmeal blend that builds a “moisture reserve” to protect the skin. This line makes me look forward to the day when I confidently stroll out the door and not worry about my skin drying out!

They also have the Aveeno Active Naturals Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion (P812.25 for for 354 ml) and Aveeno Active Naturals Skin Relief Body Wash (P574.75 for for 354 ml) for those with extra dry skin that are already itchy and irritated. They have a Triple Oat Complex that is shown to relieve and soothe skin while moisturizing for 24 hours. This is perfect with as the cooler weather of the –ber months can cause skin to feel drier and more irritated.

Aveeno is now available at all leading supermarkets and drugstores nationwide. For more info, visit the Aveeno website or Facebook page.
