Avon launches its designer line at Salon De Ning, The Peninsula Manila

Avon used to be known as a frumpy, outdated brand patronized by our lolas and old aunts. Sure it has noteworthy products, but us young 'uns would always go for edgy brands that we can proudly carry around as a sign of well, coolness. Being "in".

However, unless you're living under a rock, you probably know that Avon is quickly remodeling itself as a hip, classy name with more updated products that can compete with the trendy brands we know today.

New Avon rings

Avon proved it with their new designer collection launched last October 20 at Salon De Ning, The Peninsula Manila. Three new jewelry sets designed by the House of Ungaro (inspired by Paris), Shaill Jhaveri (India), and Maria Politis (New York) were showcased to the press that evening, as well as a Manzzini bag collection inspired by Verona.

Here's the designer collection, as modeled during the event!

PRESS RELEASE: “La Ville-Lumière” or “The City of Light” is the setting of Avon’s first international luxury brand collaboration – Parisienne Bloom Collection. Models wearing French-chic outfits styled by renowned stylist Patrick Ty showcased the jewelry that hints of everything vivacious yet chic; bold yet feminine; seductive yet glamorous.

“For Ungaro, jewelry is the key to self-expression,” explained Kimi Abapo, Associate Category Manager for Avon Fashions-Jewelry. “The French design powerhouse that has dressed fashion greats such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Catherine Deneuve, and Sharon Stone, sees that the Avon woman is very similar to the Ungaro woman who enjoys the rituals of adornment,” she added.

Characterized by a blend of traditional festivals, music, arts, culture and history. A perfect blend of the exotic and contemporary, award-winning Shaill Jhaveri brought his rich Indian heritage and his exposure in the world fashion capital New York City in designing the strikingly classy Magic Collection. This collection was showcased during the event through the models wearing unique yet stylish Indian-inspired outfits styled by celebrity stylist, Alyanna Martinez.

Guests were also seemingly transported to the fast-paced, highly cosmopolitan and timelessly glamorous New York City runway. Styled by actress/celebrity stylist, Laureen Uy, models walked around the venue donning sophisticated and sexy dresses and the Through the Looking Glass collection.

New York-based Avon Global Jewelry Design Head Maria Politis created the Through the Looking Glass Collection that has a modern vintage mood and enduring appeal.

“Watch out for the free-spirited cocktail ring. It’s my personal favorite,” said Ruffa Gutierrez.

Last but certainly not the least, the guests “traveled” to the cobblestone paths of the medieval city of Verona -- the inspiration for the Manzzini collection. “Avon’s first premium bag line reflects a Manzzini woman who travels the world in style and confidence. We aptly named the line after a famed fashion street in Verona, Via Manzzini,” said Johanna Chua, Assistant Category Manager for Avon Fashions-Accessories.

And that's what happened at the event. :D I took quite a bunch of photos of the jewelry and bag collection - I will be posting them as soon as I'm done processing them. In the meantime, let me know which collection is your favorite!
