The Tita Trifecta: Salonpas, Tiger Balm, and Kwan Loong Keep Me Going In This Tiring World

I’m in Tokyo by the time you’re reading this, and dying (figuratively) in the 10—0 c weather. My legs and lower back are also probably sore and painful by now from all the walking I have to do in the trade convention I’m visiting. I’m not complaining - you know what, I totally am! When did my body start to hurt so much for so little? It's a question I've been asking myself more often lately. It feels unfair to age and sense my body start to creak, and all of this when I’m only 35!

Now, let’s talk solutions, because if there's one thing I've learned, it's that being prepared is half the battle. That's why I've packed some of my trusty pain relief essentials: Salonpas, Tiger Balm Red Ointment, and Kwan Loong Medicated Oil. I honestly didn’t believe in the soothing powers of medicated oils and balms, but now I do. I don’t know why they work so well but they. Just. Do.

These are my go-to products for instant relief and comfort. Whether you’re traveling, at the office working, or just bemoaning your lot in life at home, they might be able to help!

Salonpas Jet Spray (~P300)

I got this during my last Tokyo trip at a random pharmacy. Not sure if it’s available in the Philippines, but if you spot it, you should try it! It’s the magic of Salonpas but in an aerosol spray bottle. It has no strong smell (you know what I mean) and it dries a few seconds after you spray it. This one is perfect for those hard-to-reach areas like my lower back. It's super convenient - just point and spray for a quick, cooling relief. Its formulation, which includes ingredients like menthol and methyl salicylate, penetrates deeply to soothe muscle strains and discomfort. Plus, it's a no-touch, mess-free solution, ideal for when I'm on the go and need a quick fix.

Kwan Loong Medicated Oil

This one's a bit of a hidden gem. It's incredibly effective for temporary relief of minor aches and pains. The oil is light, non-greasy, and absorbs quickly, making it perfect for a quick application before I start my day or as a mid-day pick-me-up. Its aromatic properties are also really invigorating, which is a nice bonus when I feel a little dizzy or have a minor headache! I always carry this tiny bottle in my tote bag - good thing I bought dozens of this when I was in Singapore last year! It comes in bigger sizes,

Tiger Balm Red Ointment (P116 / 30g)

Ah, the classic Tiger Balm Red Ointment. This little jar of magic has been a staple in my travel kit for years. Known for its distinctive smell, it's a blend of herbal ingredients that works wonders for sore muscles and general body aches. The camphor and menthol in it offer a soothing sensation that's both warming and comforting. It's particularly great for massaging into shoulders and aching legs. This is the “strongest” one out of the three, because you can really feel that menthol kick in your muscles!

People make fun of the Tita life, but you don’t really choose it. It chooses you. There’s no shame in admitting you need a little help, in fact, for me it’s a point of pride that I’ve found a few things that work. I hope you do as well!
