Easy contour on a stick: A review of the Revlon Photoready Insta-Sculpt Duo

This story is brought to you by Revlon

I have a naturally round and fleshy face. I honestly feel it looks fine in person, but it renders much, much larger on camera. I know I shouldn’t care, but it’s difficult not to care when people are always so surprised to see me in person not being as large as they thought I was! This is why contouring is a key part of my makeup routine. Thank goodness it doesn’t take a lot of time, especially with products like the Revlon Photoready Insta-Sculpt Duo (P775 for 7.6 grams on Lazada)!

This is a contour and highlighting stick that comes in four shades, from Light Medium to Deep. The shade range jumps quite a bit so I highly recommend swatching these in person before deciding on your color. Light Medium, for instance, disappears completely on my skin; I recommend it for fair to light skin. The Medium shade is a good match for me when I want light n’ natural contour days. Medium Deep on the other hand jumps several shades deeper, which works for me too if I want an intense contour. Finally, Deep is an almost black chocolate shade that is for dark-skinned folks - plus points to Revlon for always including a color for truly rich skin tones!

This is best applied, I’ve found, directly on a brush that blends it to the skin. I don’t recommend swiping this on top of skin with foundation directly as the dry texture makes it challenging to blend that way. The up side to that is this really sticks; if you’re oily, this is a contour product that is likely to stay on for up to six hours. It’s pigmented too, so a small amount goes a very long way.

Again: apply this first on a dense brush (maybe a flat top or foundation brush), then blend it as you would a normal powder contour. Voila! You’ll get some really nice yet soft definition.

I mentioned that the contour is pigmented, but I have to say that the highlighter side is more on the natural side of things. You get a soft, dewy sheen that will make people wonder if it’s makeup. My shade match is Medium. The Medium Deep highlighter is more a bronzer for me, and of course the Deep highlighter is an eyeshadow shade already, but that’s just for my medium Asian skin.

Below is the Revlon Photoready Insta-Sculpt Duo in Medium Deep applied to the hollows of the cheeks, jawline, and forehead. This is a dark color for me already, but when I do intense makeup looks like this one, I do want a more defined face. Look at how nicely it blended out!

Overall, you’ll definitely like the Revlon Photoready Insta-Sculpt Duo if you want contour that’s natural and easy to do. If you don’t wear foundation, a direct skin application blended with fingers works great; if you wear foundation, as I do, then this is best applied with a brush. I am impressed by its staying power so I would recommend it for oily skin too!

Let me know what you think, as always, and your review if you’ve tried this. ^_^
