Just Claying Around: Why I love Origins clay masks

One of the first things I really got into when I started my own skincare journey were clay masks. Since figuring out I had oily skin, I thought clay masks would suit my skin type best. Regular use of clay mask has definitely helped manage my oiliness and my breakouts. More than that, I always feel like I’m enjoying a mini spa session whenever I have one on!

Origins has been on my radar ever since I got to sample their Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask from this year’s PV Anniversary kit. I really liked it, so I was pretty excited two more clay masks from Origins!

When Liz shared that she uses the Origins Out of Trouble 10 Minute Mask (P1,550) as a spot treatment, I quickly put this on top of my list of things to try. The mask claims to “fight and prevent outbursts so skin stays in the clear” and it was pretty amazing to hear that it can work on active pimples as well. This has Zinc Oxide and Sulfur to help absorb oils and gunk, Camphor to help calm down spots, and Salicylic Acid to improve skin texture.

When I finally got to try this mask, my first thought was that it smelled so much like my grandfather’s favorite Sanitary Balm, a pain treatment ointment that also contains camphor. I prefer my skincare to have little to no scent, so applying this mask all over my face didn’t quite match my at-home spa fantasy. It also has a thick, creamy, almost toothpaste-like consistency and I love how it spreads so easily!

I now understand why Liz loves this for spot treatment. I dab it on my raging spots, and it helps a lot in drying them out! Simply dab it on, wait 10 minutes, and wash it off. This seems to quickly reduce the swelling, and I just stick on a CosRX pimple patch afterwards for good measure. The Out of Trouble mask has been a great pimple-fighting addition to my routine so far. I’m still not used to the scent but it’s not so bothersome if I just apply on my angry zits.

I also tested out the Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Honey Mask (P1,800), which I was particularly excited for since I enjoyed the original variant. They’ve added honey to purify and nourish skin, which makes me think that it won’t be as drying as clay masks usually are.

It’s suuuuper pretty to look at as it has micro gold flecks in the mask! It feels like a thick gel cream and as it dries, you can feel it cooling down your skin, which I found very pleasant. I’m used to really drying clay masks, and I like that this doesn’t strip off the moisture from my skin. My skin feels clean, yet soft and nourished! If you have really dry or sensitive skin, I recommend this Honey version as it is not as drying as the Active Charcoal one. Do make sure to wash it off after 10 minutes, as letting clay masks sit too long on your skin can dehydrate your skin.

Have you tried Origins wash-off masks? Which one is your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments!
