Capturing Scotland's Wild Beauty: Jo Malone London Unveils Highlands Collection in the Philippines

Today, we're taking you on a magical adventure to the Scottish Highlands, where Jo Malone London's Global Head of Fragrance, Céline Roux, and the talented perfumers Anne Flipo, Marie Salamagne, and Yann Vasnier have created an enchanting new collection that perfectly captures the essence of Scotland's wild beauty called The Highlands (P4,650 / 30ml). This collection is available here in the Philippines this May!

Céline tells us that Scotland has long been on their minds as a unique source of inspiration. "It’s such a unique place—mystical and enchanting—and one that brings so many vivid pictures to mind of rugged highlands, misty moors, crumbling castles, and mysterious lochs," she shares. "With the Scottish Highlands, nature runs wild in such a dramatic way. We really wanted to embrace that with this collection."

One of the intriguing aspects of this collection is the use of color. Céline explains, "The idea that however much you may try to control nature, when left to its own devices it just takes over is something that I have always found very powerful." She goes on to say that "bees are most attracted to purple and yellow wildflowers—colors you always see in places where nature has been left to run wild. This gave us a color palette to explore and a guide for our ingredient selections."

The collaboration with perfumers Anne Flipo, Marie Salamagne, and Yann Vasnier was a natural choice, as they had worked together so well on Jo Malone's Lavenderland collection. Anne shares, "I was thrilled to receive this particular brief and start thinking about the thistle, the national flower of Scotland." Marie adds, "I, too, had visited Scotland and experienced the beauty of the landscape while hiking with friends, which allowed me to get to know its vivid green colors and the earthiness and minerality of the land." Yann, on the other hand, "equipped myself with lots of books to research the flora and fauna of the Highlands before even thinking about fragrance."

Each perfumer brought their unique perspective to the collection. Anne, who created Melancholy Thistle, shares that the fragrance is a celebration of the raw nature of the Highlands. She describes it as "bracing, bright, woody, and aromatic," and adds that it has an "addictive appeal, which I think makes it very compelling."

Marie, the creator of Highland Heather, drew inspiration from the iconic flower of Scotland. She says, "Heather offers aromatic, woody notes as well as fresh florals, both of which are represented in our heather accord." Marie describes the fragrance as "enticing, fresh, and wild," and adds "invigorating and elegant" to the mix.

Yann, who hadn't visited Scotland before, created Mallow On The Moor. He explains, "Our priority was creating a sense of softness and comfort while capturing the petally charm of the purple mallow flowers." He says the fragrance is "soft, powdery, and charming," and adds that it's "soft, comforting, and purple!"

The Highlands collection also sees the return of Wild Achillea, a vibrant green and fresh fragrance that perfectly complements the other scents in the collection. Céline says, "When you smell it, you really feel transported to wild nature, which is very much the feeling with all the new fragrances in the collection."

When it comes to scent pairing, Céline suggests Melancholy Thistle as the ideal combiner, adding, "It adds a burst of green freshness that invigorates all the other scents."

And so, The Highlands collection brings a true sense of Scotland's wild and untamed beauty to Jo Malone London. Céline believes this collection is a perfect reflection of the brand, saying, "All the fragrances burst with naturality, transporting you to the unique landscapes of the Highlands where nature runs wild." So, if you're ready to embrace the enchanting spirit of Scotland, dive into the magical world of The Highlands collection and let your senses be captivated by these unforgettable fragrances.
