Review + Lip Swatches: Happy Skin Lip Cloud Matte Lipstick

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve personally done lip swatches on an entire lipstick collection. It’s a lot of work, guys! It’s easier to do a TikTok! However, this only goes to show how unreasonably excited I am to share about a new lipstick formula from one of my favorite local brands. It’s called the Happy Skin Lip Cloud Matte Lipstick (P599 for 3.8 grams) and - spoiler alert - I’m impressed.

Let me do a quick rundown!

What I love about the product

  • This goes on like butter on the lips. It almost feels semi-liquid, sort of melty, once it touches the lips, and has a balmy but dry finish to it. It doesn’t fully set, I noticed, so it keeps lips moisturized. It features hyaluronic acid, squalane, and vitamin E for the moisture.

  • Opacity is excellent. One layer is enough to fully cover lips, and this goes for ALL colors! You can also wear it sheer by lessening the amount you place for that blotted lip effect.

  • Texture is incredibly lightweight for a matte lipstick. It doesn’t feel like thick gunk is sitting on your lips even though it’s a full coverage product.

  • Staying power is pretty good at five hours. Since it doesn’t fully set, you can “reactivate” the pigment by pressing your lips together. It will fade over time of course but it’s even, it doesn’t leave an outer ring.

  • There are eight beautiful shades in this collection. The iconic Honeymoon Glow is back (!!!!) for one, though I must say Chic has stolen my heart. Unavailable is also a pretty nude for deeper morenas.

  • I love that even though the finish is a powdery matte, it doesn’t emphasize the lines of my lips. In fact my lips look plumper.

  • There is no scent at all.

Neutral

  • The price is P599 for 3.8 grams. I think it’s fair for the quality you get, as the formula feels like a high end one. But this pricing is higher than other local brands.

What I don’t like about the product

  • The packaging is cute, and I love that custom rose gold Happy Skin Disk on the top, but I’ve never been a fan of the click-drop lipstick packaging. It always feels a bit flimsy, unless you’re paying for Guerlain or Lancome.

Verdict

Obviously, the Happy Skin Lip Cloud Matte Lipstick is a hit for me. I’ll be using these quite a bit, I just know it! Try it if you love matte BUT comfortable lipsticks. Which shades are calling your name?
