A close look at the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix

Last week, I noticed this deep groove around the corner of my eyes that wasn’t there before. I felt rather concerned about it because it seemed to have happened overnight! That’s not true, of course, but I am aging and it is showing. I don’t think I’m worse off for it but I would like to soften my lines as they develop. I said to myself: it’s time to wear eye cream. And I mean really be consistent about it!

Luckily, Estée Lauder sent over their new eye cream called the Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix (P5,000 at Lazada). The brand’s research team has found that micro-movements around our eye area causes it to lose elasticity much faster than the rest of our skin due to the mechanical stress of blinking and making facial expressions. It turns out that the eye area is specifically primed to show lines earlier because the skin around there is 40% thinner than the rest of the face, with less oil glands to moisturize it.

Because of this new research, Estée Lauder upgraded their ANR Eye Concentrate formula with their new ChronoluxTM Power Signal Technology help increase the natural production of fresh new cells and collagen, improving skin’s elasticity and bounce for firmer feeling skin. They also feature the 360° Mesh Matrix technology which contains a lightweight, flexible visco-elastic polymer network and multi-molecular weight hyaluronic acids to help strengthen and support the delicate eye area skin, by cushioning it against the visible effects of micro-movements, like blinking, squinting and smiling.

So does it work? Let’s look at the main active ingredients:

  • Bifida Ferment Lysate - Estée Lauder’s patented probiotic ingredient is also featured in their serum. Third in the ingredients list, impressive.

  • Adansonia Digitata Seed Extract - Baobab extract, as with most plant extracts, is rich in antioxidants

  • Tripeptide-32 - an amino acid blend of mix of proline, serine, and threonine, which is said to help regulate the sleep cycle of our cells

  • Yeast Extract\Faex\Extrait De Levure and Lactobacillus Ferment - more yeast ferment, very popular in anti-aging

  • Sodium Hyaluronate - hyaluronic acid for moisture that penetrates deeper into the layers of skin

  • Algae Extract and Hydrolyzed Algin - good for moisture and tightening

  • Sodium Rn - a relatively new ingredient, it is said to help with the healthy functioning of skin cells

  • Caffeine - said to help with skin tightening

  • Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate - a Vitamin C derivative, for brightening skin

It looks great so far! Now we know we’re not just paying for water and silicones. Estée Lauder has also created a cryo-steel wand that they claim instantly cools our skin by ~3°F / 2°C. I can say for a fact that yes, the wand ALWAYS feels cold even when the eye cream is just sitting in room temperature. I love that it’s weighted and fits the contours of my eyes for application - it’s quite refreshing to use.

Here’s our reference point for my product test. I’ll add another photo in a month or so to show any results.

I’ve been testing this eye cream for only a week or so, and I promise to update this article later on with a photo of its effects on my skin if any. I want you to note the aforementioned groove on the outer corners, as well as that line in the inner corners of my eyes. Yes I’m only 33 and no it doesn’t look THAT terrible or makes my life bad in any meaningful way, but I would like to get ahead of this before it’s too late to fix with eye cream and a good diet.

Off the bat, the ANR Eye Concentrate Matrix has a light texture that does feel like it’s coating the skin to keep it from drying out. It feels rich and like it sinks into the skin to do the job. Nevertheless, it doesn’t feel greasy once it dries. I noticed my eyes are less puffier after a week of nightly use, but I would like to see any improvements this can make on my lines.

I have faith. Because I develop skincare products with chemists myself, I am probably the most difficult to convince about the efficacy of skincare products. But the ingredients list is very promising to me. I sense that EL uses premium, exclusive, and expensive raw materials. Now will it deliver the promise? Let’s find out in a month or so!

In the meantime, you can find the Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate in the Estée Lauder Lazada Flagship Store. Good luck to our eye bags!
