Swatches + Review: The New EB Matte Colorlock Lippie

Ever Bilena has another affordable dupe that I think you guys might be interested in. The new EB Matte Colorlock Lippie (P295) is quite similar to the NARS Powermatte Lipstick, one of my favorite matte lipstick formulas out there. Like the Powermatte, EB’s Matte Colorlock goes on creamy and sets into a more solid, thin layer of color that’s fairly long-wearing. It has 12 shades available and at least a couple of them are near dead ringers for some of NARS’s shades. Let’s get into it!

The thing with dupes is, of course, they’re never going to be exactly like the expensive version. NARS is smoother and less drying, and is truly transfer-proof. Even though it’s matte with a thin non-siliconey texture, it makes my lips look smooth all day and fades evenly. It can last through a meal. That quality is what you’re paying for, and rightly so. It’s worth the price tag.

However, if you don’t have almost P2,000 to drop on a lipstick, then I think that the EB Matte Colorlock is the best alternative out there. Like the NARS, this has the same thin bullet that works well in defining the lip shape. It has more drag than NARS as you apply it (it’s less buttery), but it sets the same way. Once it dries it turns into this solid let flexible glove of color on your lips that can also last through a meal, and will stay on your lips for at least 3-4 hours. You only need one layer to get a fully opaque application.

For me, the shade Statement in the Colorlock line is super similar to NARS’s American Woman, one of my favorite pinky brown nudes. I also find Editorial to be close to NARS’s Dragon Girl.

I do recommend exfoliating your lips and applying lip balm first before using the Colorlock; priming your lips properly is the key to making this as smooth and comfortable as possible. If your lips are chapped, it WILL show under matte lipstick - any matte lipstick, no matter the price tag.

Overall, I recommend the EB Matte Colorlock Lippie to anyone looking for an affordable, long-lasting matte lipstick with an excellent selection of highly flattering shades. Let me know if this is something you’d be interested in trying out!
