Swatched: Avon 24K Gold Collection Makeup Palette

Let's start the day with a pretty makeup palette! The Avon 24K Gold Collection Makeup Palette (P699) came out late last year in time for the holidays. It's a whole new look for Avon palettes; in the past, they would always come in small rectangular plastic or cardboard cases. This new, slim squarish shape is refreshing to the eyes - it looks very much like LORAC Mega Pro, actually. It's just slightly smaller than the Mega Pro but the size and shape of the pans are almost the same.

I love the expensive-looking burnished gold surface of the palette!

The Avon eyeshadows perform impressively well considering the value of the palette. They're not quite at the level of LORAC, but the pigmentation and fine finish will show up well on top of primer - or even without. Some even have a twinkly finish much like Bobbi Brown's sparkle eyeshadows! They're not powdery so no need to worry about fall out.

Aside from 17 eyeshadows, the Avon 24k Gold palette comes with two blushes and five lip colors. The blushes are pigmented and smooth; I've always liked Avon's single pan blushes since they flatter morena skin especially. The two shades are a bit too similar though. The lip colors though are goopy and has barely any pigment. They're like a grown-up version of play lip gloss found in kiddie palettes. That's not a compliment. I wish Avon included real lipstick or just added more blushes. Or, you know, not put them there at all.

Anyway, check out the swatches! The colors on the second row did not show up well on camera but the pink on the left and grey most have the prettiest multi-colored sparkles, exactly like Bobbi Brown eyeshadows.

Still, the eyeshadows and the packaging are worth the fairly affordable price of admission. If you love color and shimmer on your eyes as I do, then the Avon 24K Gold Collection Makeup Palette is a good buy. I sincerely hope Avon would come out with more palettes like this! I'm looking forward to a good balance of matte and shimmer, as well as deeper shades for more contrast.

Thoughts? What do you think of Avon's LORAC dupe attempt?
