Three easy steps to have full-bodied hair

Don’t you just hate it when your hair goes flat like a fizzed-out soda drink? Flat hair can be caused by too much humidity, product build-up, and improper styling. Thank goodness it’s easy enough to fix! Check out these three easy steps to volumize your hair.

1. Use a clarifying shampoo to remove all traces of product build-up. That mousse, hairspray, and hair serum you love using? They don’t get completely washed away with normal shampoo! They tend to just pile up on the scalp and hair, thus weighing your locks down.

High-end clarification: Kérastase Cristalliste Shampoo and Serum

A good clarifying shampoo can remove any lingering gunk on your hair. It can restore bounciness and shine instantly. However, it’s not meant to be used on a daily basis (two to three times a week is enough). Stick to your normal shampoo for everyday cleansing!

Try the Human Nature Clarifying Shampoo as a more accessible alternative

Extra tip: skip the conditioner to prevent it from weighing down your hair. As a rule, use conditioner only when your hair feels dry. Its main purpose is to soften and moisturize your hair - too much and it can contribute to the flatness.

2. Spray a root lifter directly on the base of your hair. You will rarely hear praises sung of root lifters, but they are an amazing way to give your hair volume and a bit of nourishment without resorting to hair spray. You can choose to let your hair air-dry with this product on, or get even more body by giving yourself a blow-dry.

Love this stuff to bits: the Kiehl's Super Thick Volumizer! It doesn't feel like hair spray at all, and doesn't make my hair feel stiff.

3. Blow-dry your hair using both the hot and cool setting. This is the secret of hair stylists! Bend over and blast your hair at the roots using hot air. Use your fingers to shake your hair down in sections. Before it’s completely dry, turn on the cool setting and use it to loosen up your blow-dry. Hot air can make your hair look stiff, while cool air can give your hair a softer, bouncier finish.

Extra tip: If you want to enhance your waves, use only your fingers while blow drying. Twist  sections and blast them with hot air. If you want to get straighter hair, use a rounded animal hair brush.

See? Easy as pie! Now there’s no reason to suffer through a flat hair day! What are your favorite hair volumizing products and tips? I'd love to know as I'm always looking out for new things to try with my hair. It's so flat most of the time! I've already blogged about how I deal with limp hair so please check that out if you haven't yet. ;)
