Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream

I'm sure you've already seen the raves about the Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream (P1,550) from the other beauty bloggers. No question about it, this stuff is da cheese! It's a great face base for two reasons: the flawless satiny finish and color match (at least on me). It's also the first BB cream I've encountered that has no SPF whatosever.

While other BB creams focus on skincare claims and sun protection, the Fairydrops Candy Bar is all about perfecting the skin. A Japanese newscaster, who needed something that will look good on harsh studio lighting, is credited for helping formulate it. It's supposed to have micro-gold pigments and soft focus powder in the waterproof formula.

Here's what I think!

What I love about the product

  • It makes my skin look fantastic. Not just good or nice, but fantastic both in person and on camera. It has light to medium coverage, which evens out my skintone well. It won't cover major blemishes or acne but it can give brighter-looking skin.
  • This has no perceptible shimmer. It has a satin finish which means that it's not glowy or dewy; more like matte but with a bit of fresh lustre to it. Like real skin.

  • Ochre is my perfect shade match. Fairydrops Candy Bar only comes in Light Ochre and Ochre which is limiting but I find that the product adjusts to the skin after a few minutes. I reckon these two shades can accommodate NC20 to 35 (light to medium).
  • Has a light, non-greasy feel on skin. It feels sticky initially but when it dries it just doesn't feel like anything.
  • Helps control oil. It won't block off oil completely (nothing does) but when I'm wearing this I oil up later even in very humid weather. It usually takes me four to five hours before I oil up with this.

Hand swatch. You can see how very thin and skin-like it is.

  • Lasts all day with only minimal retouching. It doesn't fade or cake up. I only usually need to retouch once if I'm wearing this for a straight eight hours.
  • A little goes a long way. I usually use two pea-sized drops of the product for the whole face if I'm using the detachable sponge; one small squeeze if straight from the tube.
  • Doesn't break me out.
  • Smells very faintly of candy.

Worn

Flash. After five hours and one retouch.

What I don't like about the product

  • The white tube is a magnet for smudges. It's not even a straight-out smooth plastic thing; it has a rubbery texture that grabs on to any mess you have on your hands.
  • You have to be careful when squeezing the stuff out of the tube. It's hard to get the right amount, and it tends to squirt out glops of BB cream! Always, always aim it downwards, on your face or back of the hand. One time the product landed on the lapel of my newly laundered white dress shirt. :/
  • Issue #3 with the tube: it's opaque so you don't know how much you have left. Seriously Fairydrops should change the packaging pronto!

Neutral

  • The sponge is a boon and a bane. If you're lazy/busy and don't like picking up a separate applicator, the sponge is a great way to apply the BB cream in a jiffy. But it's wasteful as it absorbs the watery product too quickly. I suggest limiting the use of the sponge and just apply the BB cream straight from the spout.

Recommendations

If you're oily and want a light yet perfecting, photogenic face base, the Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream is a great option. It stays put and makes skin look fantastic - provided you're a match with one of the only two shades available. This isn't a tinted moisturizer or a traditional BB cream. It's an all-out foundation.

It's ideal to use for special events or for everyday office or school stuff. :) If you have good skin this would be all you need, otherwise a bit of concealer would be in order.

Verdict

Love it! I don't love the tube it comes in but my flawless face ain't complainin'. Haha. What do you think? Worth the P1,550 or not? I think it is because it's rare to find a perfecting demi-matte base that feels this light and comfortable.
