FOTD: That ship has sailed

I have too much makeup that sometimes I forget the really good ones in my stash. There are so many new things coming in, therefore more new things to love and maybe even rave about, that I neglect my old picks. Take this Avon UMR lipstick in Carmen Rose. I believe I've only worn this twice since I got it in February. Seriously, wth. It's a fab red lipstick that suits me perfectly!

I would describe Carmen Rose as a brilliant ruby red. It's not something one would call classic since it's quite shiny, but if you like a more modern, younger red, I think you'll take to Carmen Rose. :)

That said, I did this look upon the request of a reader. The reader, who is ironically named Cherry, asked if I can post a photo of me wearing the MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Blue Stripe. I said "ironically named" because Cherry said she is afraid of red. Oh my, please don't be! Red is such a great color to wear! If you do it cleanly and precisely, like the look I have on, it can come out very chic.

Anyways, here are the details of the look. I defined my eyebrows with a soft brown pencil - I don't want them to look too strong as red lips are the star here. I didn't wear any eyeshadow, instead opting for a shimmery beige cream base to even out the color of my lids. The navy blue eyeliner was a nice touch, I think, because it brought a softer, bit of a nautical feel to the makeup. Lastly, I didn't use blush, just a tan contour powder.

Here's what I used!

Face: Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow liquid foundation, Artdeco Camouflage Cream Concealer (blemishes), Clinique Airbrush Concealer (undereyes), Palgantong Theatrical Powder to set, Guerlain Meteorites

Contour: MAC blush in Harmony

Eyes: Artdeco Eyeshadow Base, MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Blue Stripe, Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara, Avon Perfect Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown

Lips: Avon UMR Lipstick in Carmen Rose

So there you go! Hope you liked the look. :)

It is so amazing how you combine blue and red Ms.Liz, they did not look too much. I love the red shade of Carmen Rose, I think I really need to see an Avon dealer very soon! I am including this and the Avon eyebrow pencil on my "to buy list". And yes! The Mac powerpoint blue pencil looks great on you! Perfect eyebrows din!

Hi Liz, with all the raves about red lipsticks recently, I too got one for myself. I wear it when I dont have time to put makeup in my eyes or eyebrows, it creates a very simple yet glamorous look - perfect for my meetings! Though I still have a soft spot for coral , I think that a red lipstick in my beauty kit always come in handy at any given occasion.

However, I did come across a blog saying that there are different types of red lipsticks and not everything will suit everyone. There's something about the intensity of the color that the blog paid emphasis to but I didn't quite get it. Would definitely appreciate if you can share some ideas on how to find the perfect red lipstick :)

Could you do a step by step tutorial on how to perfect the winged eyeliner and/or the cateye? :)

Yeah...I understand what you said in the first paragraph. That's why I'm keeping myself from buying new lipstick right now because I don't get to use the old ones anymore! Such a waste.

How cute, I can see your photographer in the mirror! Hehe

I have a lot of friends who are also afraid of wearing red! They mostly think that it won't suit them, and they're afraid that they'd end up looking like a clown. But like you I soooo disagree! You really just need to find out which kind of red will flatter your features and learn how to put it on neatly so that it'll look chic and not clown-ish. hahaha This FOTD is a great way to show that so thanks for sharing! The blue eyeliner's a great touch.

The look brighten up your face. I will definitely try it,once I found the perfect Red Lipstick. I am so in love with nudes right now. The only red lipstick I have is from Ever Bilena, which I got from my makeup artist friend who introduced me to the makeup world. Nevertheless, let me pin your look for future reference.
PS.
I oh so love your eyebrows. I will treat myself to Browhaus next month!

Winged liner paired with red lips is such an effortlessly sexy look. It's really great on you Ms. Liz! And I do think it will look good on anyone too. People just really need have a little confidence in wearing red lipstick :) I think it would have been even better though if you used lipliner to outline the shape of your lips before you filled it in with the lipstick. Just to eliminate feathering and to make it look neater :) Still, this shade of red is truly flattering on you. Claps for this look Ms. Liz! :D

I've always wanted to try creating an eyeliner look similar to this one, but I always fail. I have Chinese eyes so my lids fold inwards. My eyeliner basically disappears no matter how thick I draw it, so it would be pointless to draw a blue line on top of the black one. It simply wouldn't be seen :( Because of this, I really envy eyes like yours! You can experiment with more eyeliner looks because the shape of your eyes permits so. Lucky!
