Janine Tugonon is 1st Runner Up for Miss Universe 2012
Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 11:49AM I was following the Miss Universe pageant on Twitter today and I was riveted by all the funny comments! I love that Twitter didn't fail me. Come awarding time, I was on the edge of my seat. Everyone was predicting that Miss Philippines, Janine Tugonon, would win because of her answer and beauty.
It was not meant to be. :( I was disappointed because I wanted to see a Filipina Miss Universe in my lifetime - today, preferably - but there is a next year! I'm still happy and proud that Miss Philippines won 1st runner up! This is the closest we've been to the crown in a while!
I loved her answer to the question on whether English should be a prerequisite for being Miss Universe. Janine said, "For me being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language, it's about being able to influence and inspire other people. So whatever language you have as long as your heart is deserving and you have a strong mind to show to people, then you can be Miss Universe." Boom! I didn't like the question though. It was inane, almost too easy. Our home girl did us proud with an answer that was short yet meaningful.
Congratulations Janine! You've inspired us all!

She really resembles like Miriam Quiambao, I really thought she was going to win since Ms.USA's answer is quite, well, weird. haha
Oh well, maybe next year, we'll bag the crown. hehe
I wasn't able to watch the Ms.Universe beauty pageant but I am so glad to be reading the news from you,Ms.Liz. Her answer is brief yet concise. I always wonder the criteria for judging because the winner always ends up not the one with the best answer... but that's just for me... anyway, her winbibg the 1st runnerup makes us proud to be Pinay!
I was also disappointed that Janine did not take home the Ms. Universe title. :( Nevertheless, I'm immensely proud of her answer and that she got 1st runner up! :D Having a great answer in the dreaded Q&A and finishing as 1st runner up are two great achievements already. May God continue to bless her.

I wasn't able to watch, so thanks for the Miss Universe update! What a brilliant answer to the question, which I agree is a rather silly one. One might even go so far as to call it racist. But kudos to Ms. Janine! You make us proud :)

She is really an epitome of Filipina beauty; a beauty that glows and inspires other people. Truly a pride for the country and the universe.
I find the answer quite safe actually but then again it is a fairly easy/simple question. Should Macaroni and Cheese be eaten before a Miss Universe Pageant?

@Cam: Haha! That sounds like a de kahon answer no? Im thinking that before the pageant, the Ms U people trains the candidates to answer and they have like a pool of questions that are most likely gonna come out. Like in board exams, the "patok" questions. Anyhow, she did very well and sure made us all proud to be Pinay.
@ManilaJen Yeah , I'm really quite curious on what the turn out should be if Ms.Janine got a harder question like say about Reproductive Health rights or Involvement of the Church with the government but being Ms. Universe is not just about answering questions, it's about being able to influence and inspire other people. so whatever answer you give as long as your heart is deserving and you have a strong mind to show people, you can be Ms. universe!
