Mentholatum Lip Ice lip balm

Lip balms are the kind of things you should keep lying around in case you need it - which is all the time! Me I keep a lip balm on my desk, current bags that I use, my jeans pocket, and my dresser. I can't stand dry, chapping lips so I take extra precautions. Especially now when the weather is cooler, sensitive skin tends to be drier.

One lip balm I love is the Mentholatum Lip Ice lip balm (P89). This lip balm brand has a cult following in Singapore and Hong Kong, so much that my friends would stock up a good supply before leaving for the Philippines. Everyone hoorayed when Lip Ice finally arrived in our shores last year - and I totally understand why.

What I love about the product

  • Moisturizing without being waxy.
  • Takes a loooong time to dry up on your lips, and when it does, it just sort of absorbs into the skin instead of drying up in flakes.
  • Has SPF15!
  • Has a nice selection of scents that doesn't smell too fake or chemical. I love the Lemon one, it smells like Halls candy. Haha.
  • Leaves a nice minty tingle for a few minutes after applying. I know some girls who mind, but personally I like it because it makes my lips feel somewhat refreshed.
  • Cheap! At P89 in major drugstores like Watsons, this is practically a steal.

What I don't like about the product

  • Nothing really. It's cool.

Recommendations

If you're looking for a lip balm that's very light on the lips - lighter than Carmex - but still as moisturizing, then go for the Mentholatum Lip Ice lip balm. It's cheap and does the job without fuss, plus it feels very soft and non-sticky when worn.

This lip balm comes in a tinted version, the Lip Ice Sheer Color (P145). That's another one you shouldn't miss out on! Click the link for the review.

I didn't post a swatch anymore, this clear lip balm is just a milky color in the tube like normal lip balms

Verdict

Love it! It's the lip balm that is the most similar to my absolute fave, Aquafina. It's just ever so slightly thicker but the difference isn't that much obvious. I'm not running out of lip balm anytime soon (I've lost count of the ones I already own), but when I have to buy, I will buy Lip Ice since Aquafina is not available locally.

Yes yes I know, I will have to do a comparative review of my lip balms soon. I have Carmex, Aquafina, and Lip Ice - three of the arguably best drugstore lip balms out in the market right now. Stay tuned!

But before you go, tell me what your fave lip balm is!

I <3 Carmex and Venus & Mars' Lip Detox! But for a tinted balm, I'm lovin' Etude House's Magic Tint Balm. :)

Neutrogena norwegian formula for me. Even carmex doesn't keep my lips moisturized. I stock up on Neutrogena when I go abroad, since it isn't available here anymore.

Gosh! I can't stand chapped lips too! Like I said sa FB, I have a lip balm everywhere in the house. I would always freak out when I can't find any then later my Mom would give me back all the lip balms she found in my jeans or sweater in the laundry! lolz I must try this Ice lip balm! Thanks!

Anyways, have you tried EOS? Nice texture on the lips, yummy tasting and the shape of it, is GENIUS! Unfortunately, we dont have it available in Canada so I had to grab a couple when I was there.
I think digitaltraincase has some so try it sometime. ;p

Take care Liz!

Sounds nice! So far my fav lipbalm in the carmex gel type one. XD Id unno what to call it. It does a great job of keeping my lips moisturized and i don't really mind the thickness. That sounds really nice though, maybe if I run out of carmex I'll try it. Another great lip balm I've heard of is EOS but I heard from some people they still prefer carmex better. : O I have yet to try EOS though. I heard they were tasty lol.

I have Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm. It's very moisturizing although it's also very expensive for a lip balm - Php300 atleast.

Thanks. this is very informative. I keep seeing these lip balms in our neighborhood Watsons store here in Malaysia but never dared to try one 'cause I thought it could be one of those fancy lip balms that fail to deliver.

At present, I'm using Blistex Lip Tone SPF15 and it does a splendid job in moisturizing my lips. But I am about to finish it up soon so I'll be needing a backup soon. I guess, I'll give lip ice a try. The weather here in Malaysia is unforgiving so added moisture and sun protection would be a great deal for me.

I have these in ALL flavors. As in takot maubusan. LOL.

@ mara where did you buy?thanks

I always used Nivea or Maybeline before. Nivea doesn't really do its job in terms of hydrating lips. Maybeline does the job better than Nivea, but I'm not satisfied since it's waxy. Upon reading this post however, it seems like I'll be having a new lip balm to try out!

My lips dry up easily despite the humid Manila weather. :-( I rely on good old Chapstick. Kiehl's is great but just way too expensive. I also grabbed a few tubes of Burt's Bees when I was abroad last year. Works well at keeping my lips soft but I don't like the smell so much. I'll try LipIce out. I'm partial to anything Lemon-scented so I'm already sold. :)

I used Nivea and Maybelline lip balms before as well. But those didn't deliver for me. (FYI, did you know that Maybelline products are tested on animals?) Then I tried Lip Ice coz I've read a lot of good reviews for it. I must say it is the BEST lip balm by far. It moisturizes like crazy and it's so affordable.

I also want to try Carmex since it is one of the good balms and the cooling effect lasts longer than Lip Ice. But Ms. Liz said that Lip Ice is lighter than Carmex. Do you think I should still give it a try? Please let me know. Thanks!

So my fave lip balm is obviously Lip Ice. I have it in Strawberry and it smells nice.

Thanks for this review Ms. Liz. More power and God bless! :)

I've been using Maybelline's lip smooth for years now. The pink one's color suits my lips and face perfectly, and I don't have to use lipsticks with it. Price is reasonable as well. I do have a complaint with it though: it's a little waxy and I don't like the feeling after it dries out (I make sure never to dry out then).

However, this is the first time I've heard that they test their products on animals. Uh oh.

June 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCamille

I should try this I only use the nivea lip balm.

June 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCall Center Agent

June 24, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterteej

Carmex, Neutrogena, and Alba Botanica Terratints in Blaze. :-)

June 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFreyaLuna

The best lip balm I've tried is Burt Bees Lip balm! <3 I might try this lip ice since it's a lot cheaper than Burt Bees, then, compare both! Thanks for this review!

This is my fave non-tinted lip balm. Love Lemon. <3 I totally agree about this being moisturizing without being waxy. :)

June 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPammy D.

I love the Lipice in apple flavor and my boyf loves it too. Whenever he has chapped lips he'd always ask for the "minty apple" daw, kasi he just couldn't remember exactly what it's called. Why are boys like that?!?

June 25, 2011 | Unregistered Commentertjay

oh i love this...im almost half way of the lip balm, im using the grape blackcurrant.... :) ive tried carmex..ok nmn but i don't like the waxy feeling...eto mas light...n love the smell...:)

June 25, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterapple

I love the Lip Ice Sheer Color one! Very moisturizing, before using the Lip Ice one, when I applied my favorite matte lipstick I have to place a lip balm first then the lipstick. But after using it, I don't need a lip balm I just apply the lipstick directly but it looks moisturize. I love it superb, also a lot of people are asking me what lipstick I am using when it is only the lip balm I am using. Totally in love with it! Almost done in one tube for just a month <3
