Montagne Jeunesse Chocolate Masque

I have a dirty confession to make: I have never used a face mask before now! This is embarrassing for a beauty editor and blogger, haha. Anyway, the reason I'm not into face masks is because they require a lot of time (25 minutes at the least) to put on and remove. I also thought they were unnecessary and redundant. In any case, there's always a first time!

I've had this Montagne Jeunesse Chocolate Masque pack for more than a month. Now that I've finally used it, I regret that I didn't get around to it sooner.

What I like about the product:

  • It has a heavy milk chocolate aroma. I love it! Several bloggers have sworn that it smells deceptively good enough to eat. I heartily agree. The yummy smell stays on your skin for a long time.
  • It has a thick, creamy texture that's easy to spread all over your face. It feels very luxurious once applied.
  • A pack has a lot of product (20g); you can slather it on generously without feeling stingy.
  • Super cheap! It's only P78/pack at Watson's. It's skincare that's right up my alley.

What I love about the product:

  • It delivers its promise to moisturize since it has shea butter. Aside from that, there's an instant skin-brightening effect because of its deep-cleansing, purifying properties (kaolin clay, Mediterranean clay, Dead Sea salt).
  • It's also true to its word about being "anti-stress". I found the sweet chocolate smell very soothing, and I had so much fun looking silly in it. Case in point:

Why so serious?

My favorite chocolate in the whole wide world, with a convincingly-chocolate-y face mask. Perfect set-up!

You get the drift. The product is marketed towards working women who find spas too expensive, or too busy to visit anyway. If you fit the profile, this is a nice face mask to relax in by yourself or with friends.

What I don't like:

  • Messy! I washed it off over a white formica sink and I was careless enough to get it everywhere - water-dissolved drops of it, as well as glops of it. Had to wipe the sink down.
  • It has ingredients that may not agree with sensitive skin. Notables are glycerin, kaolin clay, and bentotite. Check out Nikki's review, where she spoke of getting a rash the first time she used the product. I personally didn't have any bad reaction with the product though, because my skin isn't sensitive.

Verdict? This is a good product that delivers what it promises for an affordable price. However, be careful when applying it to avoid a mess and DO NOT leave it on your skin for more than the prescribed 10-15 minutes.

So, tried a new face mask lately? How was it? Answer in the comments!

i love this! it smells so yummy indeed and makes my skin soft and smooth after. to add to your tip, use only warm water to clean your face as instructed to fully enjoy the benefits of the mask. the first time i tried this, i sneaked in some facial cleanser and the mask didn't tighten as it did the second time i used it.

i also tried the hot fudge self warming mask and i like it as well. it smells like sundae and i love the warm sensation on my face.

Hi Liz, new visitor here. :)

I've only tried using a mask once back in high school, it was my dad's (yes, my dad's!) St. Ives mineral clay mask, which I only tried because putting blue gunk on my face seemed fun.

Anyway, I'm the ultimate chocoholic, and I want to try this product because it's chocolate, hehe. I'll definitely try this once I get the time, thanks for sharing!

Oh, and Meiji Strawberry Apollo? Love it!

I'll be a frequent visitor.

Regards,

Dea

I have used St.Ives clay mask too and it gives me the tingling and firm feeling (in a good way). It brightens my skin and I feel less oily for the night. ^_^

P.S. Finally you got around to use the mask and review it. ^_^

Hi Liz,
Just knew of your existence yesterday while I was googling "eyebrow powder" and I was instantly hooked. Love the way you write : ) A while ago, I "accidentally" chanced upon an In2It stand at a mall near our office and remembered your glowing praise of their eyebrow colour. Needless to say, I grabbed a pan and I can't wait to try it later. Also, I already came upon Montague Jeunesse masks some time ago but didnt think much of them until I read your post. So I also bought a pack w/c im gonna try tonight. Hope I'll reach the same verdict!

I use two different masks from the same brand once every week. They are definitely good for deep cleansing. I get them at a cheaper price (69 pesos) from a different store than at Watson's.
