Ask Liz! > 21st Birthday Look

Hi Ms. Liz!
I've been reading your blog for about 2 years now but only started posting comments just a few weeks ago. Your posts are always very informative and interesting to read and have inspired me not just to look beautiful, but feel beautiful as well. I'd like to thank you for helping me become more confident. :)
I'll be turning 21 this month (on the 28th to be exact) and I'd like to try a more dramatic makeup look.
Any suggestions? I'm not very good with following the latest trends since I usually just do a basic concealer and mascara look but it would be nice to do something different for a change, especially as it will be a special occasion for me. :)
Thanks and much love,
Ysabelle

Good move to ask a question on this blog, you will surely receive plenty of useful tips both from Liz and the readers. It would be helpful if you could describe yourself a little more. How will you describe your complexion? Your skin type? Do you have colored hair? Do you have an idea (it's ok if it's not very specific) of the final look you want to wear? Are you allergic to any chemicals? These are just probing questions so that we can imagine you better and suggest something more or less suitable for you. Advanced happy birthday! :-)

Heeey Ysabelle! Happy birthday in advance! Try this look out, it's very age appropriate yet sexy. ;) I'm using mostly Revlon too, you should definitely get a hold of this palette!

Thank you so much for the replies and the greets :D
And thanks for telling me to add more info Ms. Maybelle!
Well I have dark brown hair and fair-medium skin with a yellow undertone (I use Revlon 2-way foundation in 05 Sand Beige; sorry, I don't own own any Mac products so I don't know which NC number would match my skin >.<) and combination-oily skin type so it would be very much appreciated to suggest any products or methods to prevent getting a shiny T-zone. I also have some acne scars on my cheeks. They're not deep marks at all, more like spots from hyper-pigmentation :( Except for benzoyl peroxide, I don't have any other allergies ^^
As for the overall look, it would be nice to try out something a bit dramatic but still simple enough for someone who doesn't always use eye shadow and it would be appreciated as well to receive suggestions on what colors lipstick and/or blush will match it. As for the clothes, I haven't decided yet what to wear but will most likely be in gray/silver, black, blue or purple.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestion Ms. Liz!
Will definitely try out this look :D I don't have this Revlon palette, but I have another in similar colors. Hopefully the output would be the same :))

Hi Ysabelle! I checked out Liz's link and I thought her makeup would be perfect for the occasion. It exudes class, it's feminine and it's not the least vulgar.

If you will have an evening party/event, you can opt to use a shimmer eyeshadow in white or champagne tones in the corners of the eyes and the lower lids. Champagne tones go well together with many eyeshadows. If you're going to do heavy smoky eyes, a subtle lip color in peach/coral/pinkish nude tone will be a good match to avoid a surcharge of makeup. But if you can spare time to actually do the looks you're considering, that will be even better because you will see the final results and can decide which enhances your beauty and personality best.

Thanks again Ms. Maybelle!
I'll try out different color combinations and see which one looks best
