Ask Liz! > How can you avoid makeup transferring to your clothes (or others' clothes)?

Hi Ms. Liz!

Let me start this by saying how much I love your blog. I came across your blog just early last year and I must say that I'm glad that I found your blog! It's very informative and I always like the way you write your posts. You never fail to make me engaged in reading everything posted! Aside from that, having the same skin type, tone, and concerns, I can always relate to your skin woes and what-nots. Finding your blog is really heaven-sent! It's like having a sister who you can ask problems to!

Anyway, I love putting makeup on! Just the basics though: foundation (powder), concealer, blush, eyeliner, and lipstick. However, I always have the trouble of transferring my makeup (specifically my powder) whenever I lean to my boyfriend's shoulder. It embarasses me so much especially when he's wearing something white! Oops. My makeup also transfers to the collar of my clothing and it's quite difficult to wash off. I'm not sure if it's because of the makeup I use or because I don't use any primer. Is there any way I can avoid this?

Thank you, Ms. Liz!

Hi Janelle! Thank you so much for reading my blog! I really appreciate that you would take time to read my rambling posts. Haha.

But about makeup transferring...sad to say, there's no way to prevent that. Well there are face products that are less likely to transfer but they would still transfer once they mix with the oils/sweat on your face. Sorry.

There are eyeliners and lip products that would probably not transfer. Try lip stains and liquid eye liners, they stick once they dry. ;)

Maybe you have to let your make up set first before layering them, para mas ma absorb ng skin? pero yeah I agree with Ms. Liz, sometimes when make up gets mixed with sweat or pretty much anything liquid, they smudge. I csn totally relate, I hate it when this happens, especially when I'm wearing a white top.

Thank you for the response, Ms. Liz and Pauline P! I've heard of using setting/finishing mists after putting makeup on. I haven't tried using one though so I'm not really sure if it's effective. Have you tried using one?

the mist would just thin out the top layer of your makeup, give it a dewy finish, but it won't hold the makeup like a lacquer. :(

Aw, that's sad to know. :( Now I wonder why a lot of people from abroad were raving about finishing mists like the ones from MAC and Make Up For Ever.

Oh well, I think I might just invest on transfer resistant makeups. I am really bothered with this issue because it ruined a lot of my clothes already! :(

Hi Janelle, I remember coming across a makeup sealer at SUESH (a makeup supply shop) and I've tried it on the back of my hand under my regular foundation and I also tried eyeliner and it looked like it was doing its job but I havent really tried it on my face for a whole day but you should go check it out, the one I visited is located at Alabang Town Center :] I have Vitiligo which is a discoloration of the skin on my neck so I can totally relate with your dillema!
